No, sorry! The PEARL people counter is designed to count people only.

Can this be installed and used without tying it to a phone or using the "app" feature?

No, the PEARL and the App are intended to be used together. Both for installation instructions and for viewing the counts. You can use the App on up to 2 different phones at the same time, and optional software plans allow unlimited users.

Because it can get stolen, can it mount above the doorway? The doorway is about 36" and is one enough?

No, the PEARL cannot be mounted above the doorway. That being said, the units can be locked into their brackets using the provided "safety screw". Also, the brackets can be screwed into the wall, although that's rarely required because the provided sticky tape is an extremely solid mounting option.
