for what exercises can the barbell pad be used?

Barbell Pad is primarily used in Hip Thrusts, Squats and Lunges. However; for extra safety we recommend using it in all the exercises where barbell rests on shoulders and thighs.

My straps seem to be incorrectly engineered, both the hook and loop of the velcro is on the same side. Am I misunderstanding how they should be used?

That’s correct. You have to loop it through the metal hook

How comfortable is it to use the pad for hip thrusts? I need really effective cushioning for doing hip thrusts
