Great for camping and combat!
While this knife is completely awesome in every way for what its made for it is absolutely humongous. The steel is nice and thick and the handle fits well in a larger hand. The sheath is very nice and works perfectly for an upside-down carry position. The knife also came very sharp straight out of the box and I didn't feel any need to sharpen it any further. I was initially planning on using this knife for hunting purposes but soon realized that it was to enormous and I would end up cutting the animal and in half before I would have skinned it.

Pretty good knife
I recieved the Knife today and immediately put it to work for I am looking for a knife for a number of upcoming cross country hikes..I have 40 years of hiking experience in the Sierra's Adirondacks and now the Southern Forests. I have over 30,000 miles of trail hiking and untold numbers of cross country which I prefer to get away from the "Club" people...The first thing I did was to chop down and de-limb a small pine tree in my back yard, it was 4-5 inches thick at the base and about 20 feet tall. I wore leather gloves while doing so, which I normally wear while cross country hiking. A bit sore in the web of the thumb area. I wish the handle was a bit more thicker and rounder..The blade withstood all the punishment with barely a mark other than pine sap on it! I then dug up some Dandelion Roots and cut them up for a salad along with the leaves. A bit more damage to the coloration of the blade but not much. I then cut some hemp and artifical fiber rope, and Parachute cord into lengths and practiced throwing it at a plywood target. Still sharp enough to slice up a home grown tomato and to make a diagonal cut through my Salami and cheese on Rye..I think that is pretty abusive for the first two hours of ownership...It passed all my tests with flying colors...One down side, well the only down side,,,is the Sheath, as mentioned by so many other posters...Do not plan on taking it out of the Sheath in a hurry, or if needed quickly in an emergency, unless you have a normal pull strength of 10 - 15 pounds.. I only hope it gets easier to pull out with use...That or I will custom make my own Sheath with a Sharping stone pocket included...So far a great overall knife in the same class as my just retired 10 year old K-Bar Quartermaster knife..

Ka-Bar Bull Dozier Knife
It's a KaBar. What do you expect? The knife is outstanding. It feels great in the hand. The sheath it comes with has very secure retention although it does not have a tie down for the thigh. One can easily be made with a piece of para cord though. The blade steel is great. It holds an edge forever. I've literally chopped trees down with it and it was still sharp enough to use. Seriously, it's a KaBar. What did you expect? The only downside is It's made in Taiwan. I would prefer it to be made here in the USA but in reality, quality is not affected. KaBar has a reputation for building excellent knives. This is one of them.

Careful on this one
I have not owned a Ka-Bar in almost 30 years so I thought I would give one a try. I liked the looks of this one and the reviews were good so I sprung for one. Out of the box, the finish is cheap. I was hoping for more of a solid looking matte finish like a Duracoat or powder coating. The finish is cheap with a dull glow. On the blade was printed TAIWAN. Again, very disappointing for a fairly expensive knife. The blade was not sharp at all. Again, I would expect very sharp out of the box. The sheath is a hard plastic. When I put the knife in the sheath, it was stuck. You have to grip the sheath very strongly and pull very hard to remove the knife. This makes it very dangerous if the knife is sharp as you could cut your fingers to the bone. To me the knife should be something you would get at a flea market for $20. The design is nice looking but the knife is cheap junk. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. Mine will be used as a utility knife in my workshop sans the sheath.

The length of the knife would not be comfortable on your hip
Purchased this knife as a gift. The knife & sheath are made well, minus the belt attachment. The length of the knife would not be comfortable on your hip. I prefer the "ESEE 5" for a camping / survival knife.

Super durable and heavy duty
The style and manufacturing of this knife are impressive it is a work of functional art. Super durable and heavy duty, Not as heavy duty as the Berker line but in a class all its own, very nice knife

Excellent buy.
Very heavy duty, exactly what I was hoping for. Not sure why I read bad reviews about the sheath, I don't mind how well it holds the knife.

Excellent !
It took me 3 years of reading reviews and going trough pro`s and con`s before i bought this knife ; finally after i took it to the wild and subject it some medium duty chopping and buttoning i have the verdict : love the fill , looks, good steel PERFECT sheath (despite some negative reviews), the coating does not stand up to abuse (i will take it off - eventually anyway). Mr. Bob Dosier, obviously knows how to design a good knife! The only problem I have is the price (comparing to the US market-almost two times more expencive!), this is the only drawback I find. I have to compliment amazon.ca for providing exeptional service - the knife was shipped much faster then I anticipated! Thanks. 4 stars only for HUGE mark up.

Kabar FTW
Great looks, great feel and amazing sheath. This is certainly earning a place in my camping gear. Might even replace my Kabar Camillus, a long time favourite. Good Job Dozier!
