We freaking LOVE this thing!
The media could not be loaded. So we enjoy our Powerbot R7040 so much we gave it a name, Roy. Roy is our favorite household electronic or appliance ever. Here’s why:Casual things:•We set Roy to clean every day at 2:00pm, for the first few weeks on the highest suction power, using the smarthings app you can review a map of where it’s been (but you can’t choose rooms like in previous iterations of the product, more about that later) - for almost 3 weeks straight, we’d come home to clean vacuumed lines that were paralel and perpendicular (with a few curves) which is great because previous vacs we’ve had did random chaos tracks, we’d empty the dust bin, and were AMAZED how many days it was FULL FULL FULL of dust-bunny and debris (we went a month without a vacuum cleaner since our last one died, but dang!)• After a few weeks, we set Roy down to normal suction power, because the dust bin would just have a moderate sized dust-bunny in it taking up about 1/2 2/3 of the space. and that’s where we’ve left it.• When we are home and on weekends, watching Roy rove around is …FUN… yes it’s fun, because it’s a freaking ROBOT vacuuming your house like Star Wars future right now. haha.Tangible things:• the powerbots have 2 things which were the reason we bought them - optical & infrared mapping based on sight of the ceiling, and EDGE cleaning.• The edge cleaning is freaking amazing, check out videos on youtube to see what’s happening, I posted a video of Roy doing a quick edge clean - The pwoerbot has a flexible/rigid blade it extends from it’s front lip down into the crevice in front of it at the bottom of wall trim and other walls/edges, it sinks it down as far as it can, and pulls back, then pulls forward with a SUPER HIGH suction, to pick up any bits it just pulled out. I thought it would only matter for hardwood or linoleum/tile, but it works on Carpet too - I actually drilled some holes in a wall for a shelf and had drywall dust all over the floor and Roy got all of it in the carpet!!!!! (tip: if cleaning lots of powder things, be sure to *wash* the dust bin at some point to prevent it making little plaques in the corners of the dustbin)• Bonus: REMOTE CONTROL: yes you can control it from your phone, that got old fast, our favorite thing to do, is grab the remote control and move Roy around like a remote control car, it’s very easy and we’ll move him to a place to do a spot clean all the time, like after I’m done making food in the kitchen, and after I’m finished clipping my toenails (I know, but this is a real thing, c’mon) you maneuver it over to the place (or just pick it up and place it) and press the ’Spot’ button on the remote: it’ll come alive and start making a square spiral from the center of where it’s at, the square goes to about 8-10 feet wide, and during this cleaning it’ll use the edge function and of course avoid obstacles and go around them.•What if I want just one room? You can put it in any room, and then physicall block off an area loosely with chairs, or other barriers to keep it in one room, unfortunatley THIS model doesn’t work with the magnetic boundary tape (Samsung never says it does but it also does’nt say it ‘doesn’t’ but it doesn’t, this model isn’t listed on the models it works with, so don’t bother buying it.)• Many review videos on youtube show you something incorrectly - these powerbot Dust Bins, you push a button in the top, it pops up, and you grab the bracket holding it’s innards, and pull out, then dump the contents. that’s it. For some reason, most review videos, show people taking apart the innards to get to the dust bin stuff? no idea why they are doing that. You CAN take apart the innards of the mechanism area - TO CLEAN IT but you do’nt take it apart to dump it. You should clean the stuff inside if it gets caked up with dust bunnies that won’t shake out or powders. You just RUN IT ALL UNDER WATER IN THE SINK! so great, let the pieces air dry or if you’re impatient like me, wipe clean all the plastic parts and hair-dryer the filter (or buy a second filter).•RTFM read the frggin manual people, nearly all questions are answered in it and you’ll learn cool stuff it does that are too minute details to go into in reviews. The best thing about having one of these, is COMING HOME TO A CLEAN FLOOR, the psychological instant gratification of the carpet being ‘mowed’ into these rows, can’t be ignored, it always puts a little smile on my face.So far we’ve had a great experience with it, we’ve only had these tiny hiccups:• twice, it went ‘home’ and the battery wasn’t charging, it chimed and shut off with the battery light blinking, which is strange because it always homes itself to the proper spot, and re-aligns itself as needed. The culprit? some food or shmoots had gotten on one of the charging contacts - clorox wipe and paper towel got it off and let it keep charging. not sure if it picked up the stuff and smeared it over the contact, but either way, it was an easy fix, just keep an eye if it’s charging, it’s pretty obvious but would make it hard to ‘hide’ the robot and charger somewhere under something - which is totally a thing you can do but you won’t be able to ’see’ it at a glance. We know, someday Roy will break, and we’ll have to look at warranty options and such, but it’s been such a great experience, that it’s worth it to buy again. The chore of vacumming - DAILY is beyond most people’s responsibility level, and the price paid for this time of your LIFE back, is a bargain.

Nice machine, does what it needs to do!
As a busy family with 3 messy kids under 10 I was super excited when this popped up to try on the Samsung insiders site. This vacuum has been a lifesaver! The POWERbot Is easy to deploy and run for whole house clean or for quick spot cleaning after dinner. This is our first robot vacuum and I’m glad we waited to get this model. The unit was simple to set up and charge. It’s basically plug and play. Took about 3 hours to fully charge battery for the first time. Unit was then ready to deploy. Did a really respectable job getting almost everything in its path. It did have an issue with a chair that it got stuck behind but it managed to get out from behind the chair and under the table.Likes:The flat front works wonders for cleaning and l really like that it has variable speed suction for those times it needs to kick things up a notch to get bigger dust bunnies or crumbs. The dust bin is easy to get to and release for emptying. I like that it is see thru so I know when it needs to be emptied.I like that I can “drive” the unit with the included remote. Sometimes a particular spot needs a little more attention and cleaning that a regular deployment provides. This allows me to get an exact clean.I like that the unit follows a set path rather than a random pattern like some other vacuums. Allows me to see where it has been and where it’s going vs a totally random pattern.Dislikes:WiFi setup was challenging. Not the most intuitive way of having a product join a network or be added to an app.Battery life can be a challenge. Unit will go back to recharge so let it run while you are out.All good though we love the POWERbot and would highly recommended it.

Great robot vacuum- Would recommend
To keep this review easy and answer the most commonly asked questions I get-Battery Life: The battery will run the vacuum for about 30 minutes consistently. After the 30 minutes, it goes back to the base and recharges. Once it is done, it will go back to work. It doesn't head directly to the area that it left off on, so I moved it to the higher trafficked area to get extra cleaning there. Depending on hardwood or carpet/ rugs, results may vary. We have a large rug in each room with a stretch of just hardwood. So figure it's on a run about 60% of the time for my results with 3 couches to go under and about 6 chairs. I would say 1 out of every 15 to 20 runs, it gets lost or stuck. Meh, it happens, but you put it on the base, charge it and you're back in business.App: I see a lot of negative reviews for the App. Though I am nothing overly thrilled with it, it does the job of starting, stopping, scheduling, Ect. without any issue. The mapping feature has be scratching my head however. Sometimes it doesn't even give a map of what it did, but when it does, you would suspect the neighbor stole the unit to run it in their house overnight. You could never use it to map out your floor plan or anything of that nature. Also the map only generates after it is complete. So, if lost, you couldn't use the app to find it.Noise: Though the R7040 is substantially quieter than an upright vacuum (if the R7040 is on normal suction power. It does go up when it finds a spot for deep cleaning), I would find it bothersome to have it running in the room if I was watching TV or trying to sleep. The sound of a fan is just enough to drowned out the noise from the vacuum running in the other room. The real noise from the unit comes from the motor driving it. We normally just run the unit in he middle of the night while we sleep. Just make sure to leave some sort of light source on. The unit will run in a dark house, but it is not as effective.Dust bin: Though the bin is on the smaller side compared to other units, I don't think I have ever really filled the bin up. Even after 2 or 3 runs without emptying it. The bin does kind of fill up in a funny way though. It tends to fill the "cyclone" area and perhaps clogs the actual bin? With 2 large dogs, this thing picks up a ton of fur that seems to be missed by the upright vacuum during cleaning (huge plus!), but it leaves these fur snakes (see picture). They can be pretty dense so the unit must really pack it all in there. I would expect any future models to have a slightly different design to improve this, but I think the bin is large enough for sure.Maintenance: This is the only thing I really don't like about the unit. To empty the bin you have to remove it from the unit (make sense), then you have to open it up (so far so good), remove the filter (ah sure?), then take out the cyclone portion from the inside of the bin (but now it spilled out!). All in all, it's not bad, but make sure to do it over a garbage can and expect some to possibly fall out. Just seems like a weird design, but if this is the price to pay to free up my time, I can accept it. I recommend also pulling the brush out every so often to clean it and the area it rides in. I would say I do that about once every other week or 3 weeks. Deep cleaning the dust bin, maybe once a week.Performance: It is important to have the right expectations here. This is for maintaining, not "cleaning" if you will. When I bought this, I was so excited to use it, I charged it and set it free. I had the thing go 4 or 5 times straight and I still didn't think it was cleaning well. After I vacuumed, swept, and mopped though, this guy really shined! Running it once a day, or night, kept the house and rugs clean! It will never replace your upright, but will for sure add in tons of time in-between having to pull it out. All the while taking car of any dust bunnies. Also seems like dusting is just something that doesn't really have to be done anymore. Huge plus of this unit, especially if you have pets, is that the vent is on the top. So when it has corned some rogue fur and goes in for the kill, it doesn't end up blowing it away and back behind it like some other models do.TL:DR Buy this! If you have pets, REALLY BUY THIS! I can't believe how well this works for the price they are going for. You can find faults in the app or the this and that, but the performance of the unit speaks for itself and I would happily buy another one.
