Q: does it need to be bolted down?

No it doesn't, as it's very sturdy standing on it's own. But the bolts that are on top by the hook, were too small, in my case. I suppose one could buy longer bolts if one was inclined.

Q: I am having the hardest time putting this together.. i understand how part a and part b come together but how does part c go in part b? please answer

Its been a couple of years but, I remember leaving out a part and improvising. Instructions were not helpful. The actual frame is sturdy, though, and used frequently.

Q: Does it need to be weighed down? It is not sturdy at all

The first time I sat in it, it tipped right over and dumped me out of it. Fortunately, I had placed it on the yard in anticipation of that. If you use it outside, I would simply use something like tent pegs to make sure it doesn't dump you out. Of on a porch, I would screw it down. It is very very tippy and frankly, not that comfortable.

Q: Can this be used for kids?A sensory swing?

If you are using it for a calming effect I don't see why not. Although this stand will support 300 pounds I would not use it for really active strong back and forth swinging as the bars will get in the way as you swing backward. I use it for a large hammock chair that I watch TV in. It easily supports my 275 pounds.
