The brackets can go in multiple configurations and only one way is correct, however the instructions don't show which way to attach them so it's a guessing game if you're new to these

I purchased this product on June 9, 2024. The product did not work for the project that we purchased it for, the instructions were vague, incomplete and useless. Since it did not work for us, we sent it back. When I got notification that they refunded my money, I tossed my receipt from UPS and thought I was done. On July 24th, I got an email that they claim they DID NOT receive the struts back and told me to return them. What the heck? They already refunded, so I thought they received the product. As of August 8th, they RECHARGED my credit card! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS SELLER! WHAT A SCAM!

I used the pistons to help support a cellar door. I will say 100 lbs sounds like a lot of force but with the leverage of the door I ultimately needed three of them to make it an easy pull. Otherwise incredibly happy with this purchase.
