Be careful if you intend on using the suction cup.
I've used suction cup devices for 50 years in airplane cockpits. They're a great invention but with this one my effort here is to warn you of a real problem. The provided metal disc was applied to the flat tray on top of the dash. Normally the disc provides a flat smooth surface like the windshield for attaching the suction cup. By pressing the rubber cup on the surface and rotating the lever it raises the center of the cup causing a vacuum and holding it to the flat surface. Sometimes when the rubber cup won't hold the vacuum a little saliva applied along the edge works well. When attaching the round disc to the dash tray I peeled off the clear protector from the sticky surface and pressed in in place. The suction cup also has a clear non-stick protector that has the appearance it needs to be removed. I looked at this with some skepticism but went ahead and pulled it off wondering why in the world would the rubber cup have adhesive on the surface . I decided to start with putting only one edge of the suction cup on the metal disc and "quickly" realized this would be a big mistake because suction or not the cup would be glued to the disc and most likely next to impossible to remove. If you want to install the unit permanently you can remove the protector and stick in on the windshield or dash but don't expect to take it with you when you leave. I applied the non-stick protector back on the suction cup surface. Then I did a test attaching the cup to the windshield which worked and released properly. So, in this case STOP before you peel off the clear protector from the suction cup. I found the cup attached to the metal disc but with some movement of the bracket is would come loose. This is a real easy fix by applying a small amount of Vaseline along the edge of the cup. This forms the seal for the cup and it stayed in place even while adjusting the arm of the bracket and clamping the iPad.Overall, this phone/iPad holder seems well designed and holds my iPad perfectly for GPS navigation. After finishing I wondered if anyone else had any problems and took a look at the reviews. Oh man, they sure did. Maybe my alert here might just save you some real headaches.

Problem is the base works too well
I am referring to the hard plastic base that adheres to the dash, not the black tacky suction cup (which itself is also difficult to remove).I just came back from a rental car trip in Japan where I use this mount for a Samsung tablet. When it came time to return the car, the adhesive disc was extremely difficult to remove! Pretty much impossible to get my fingers underneath the base to pry it loose. I was worried the rental car company would end up charging me a fee to remove it. The ONLY reason I got it off is I had a small plastic dust pan and brush in my suitcase (I cut my own hair and use it for cleanup). I was able to use the pan to slide under the disc and then I pushed hard on it to separate the adhesive pad from the dash of the car. Because the pan was flexible plastic it did not gouge the surface of the dash. Some people claim you can use an expired credit card for this, but no way with this disc. Not wide enough or stiff enough to get enough leverage to shear the adhesive or pry the base up.If it’s your own car or you own a junker then you can leave the disc as is nor do you care if you gouge the dash surface while attempting to remove it. Keep this in mind if you intend to use this product on a rental car (most rental cars in Japan are brand spanking new).To the manufacturers of these discs: put a tang on it so your fingers have something to grab on to if you need to remove it.

Tablet holder loosens up over time
I just got this and am trying it out. I am using an iPad Pro 11 in landscape mode and wanted to see if this tablet holder would keep it secure during my driving time. It is attached to my windshield.I have been driving on smooth paved roads with your typical minimal bumps here and there. No big bumps at all. After 90 minutes the tablet holder began to loosen up and my iPad was no longer firmly held in place. I tightened my iPad up again by pressing both holders together firmly and then clamping down the lever on the back of the holder once again. That lever has very minimal clamping power. It only uses about 1/4 inch of clamping and it gives the feeling that your tablet is not secure. Regardless, I gave it a try again to see if the holder would start loosening up again. The suction cup power to keep it attached to the windshield never failed. Looking through my window I can see that the area of the suction cup remained as when I first attached it, telling me it is holding suction.Going to keep driving and see if the holders loosen up again. If they keep loosening up then this unit is not suitable for driving where there are any kind of minimal bumps. For now, I am giving it a 4 out of 5 assuming that it is user error. If it fails again, I am returning it.Will update after driving for a few hours more, staying on smooth, paved roads.

Meh, ok
This is a little cumbersome to use. I have a very thick phone, so I have to detach the pen from its case whenever I want to use it with this. Also, the suction cup has adhesive on it, which wasn’t clear in the description. I would have preferred it didn’t. Otherwise, it does what you’d expect it to do.

Works
Have mine on my dashboard in Texas heat. It does not move when driving, does not melt on you. Only a little vibration where I pad sits, but my ipad 11 pro will not come off unless you take it off. Hard turns, speed bump, fast stop, acceleration...does not move. I'm a professional storm chaser and have had it over a year.

It served the purpose
It was a gift for my husband and he liked it very much. He said the quality is good and he's able to remove it from one vehicle or one location to another.

Wow!
Have it mounted to the window of my semi truck. This thing is amazing. I was completely shocked how great it worked.
