old thermostat won't shut off with thermostat temp & room temp are the same unless I up the thermostat a degree. Will I have the same problem?

The lag between set temp and actual temp can be set from 0.2 degrees and 2 degrees. Refer to your instructions to learn how to set the lag. You can experiment with different settings to see the results until you are satisfied. Default setting is usually 0.5 degrees.
