Basically this uses a small amount of hot water to sterilise and then cold water to cool the temperature down, why do I need a machine to do that?

I'm not saying you do. But as someone who used the kettle last time I know that at 3am I personally don't want to come downstairs, put fresh water in the kettle, let it boil, let it cool to the right temperature and then start making the bottle up whilst my baby is screaming. I was happy to pay for a device that I make use of 8x a day that in 2 mins (and using only one hand whilst holding the baby in the other!) means I can make a perfect temperature fresh bottle for my baby. I am by no means saying it does something that's physically impossible to achieve without it. But from my point of view it makes a fiddly, monotonous task a doddle. Which is worth every penny to me.

can you make coffee with this

You can if you really want to, it will be cool enough for someone like yourself to drink. Make sure you wear your bib and that you sterilise your beaker first.

Do I still need to purchase a sterilizer to sterilizer the bottles first before making up the milk?

I sterilize the bottles using the Tommie tippee microwave sterilizer (only £10), then use the prep machine. However, I have read that bottles need only be washed in hot soapy water and not sterilized. Your preference really.

You can use any bottles I have used Dr browns and tommee tipee its a great buy
