The ROCCAT Kone Air and the Rebellion Against the Featherweights
Dateline: A Desktop Under Siege, Late Sunday Night. In this strange new era, the world of gaming mice has been taken over by a bizarre cult of minimalism. A strange obsession with "ultralight" designs that feel like you're holding a hollowed-out bird's egg. They are flimsy, soulless things. But I am here to tell you that the rebellion is alive and well, and its champion is a glorious, white beast called the ROCCAT Kone Air.This is not a mouse for the faint of heart or the weak of wrist. This is a tool with substance. It has a satisfying heft, a comfortable, ergonomic shape that fills your palm with a sense of authority. This is a mouse that feels like it could survive a fall, a frantic, rage-fueled gaming session, or a direct hit from a small piece of space debris. It is a solid, confidence-inspiring piece of machinery. But the real genius lies under the hood. This thing is a versatile monster. It gives you options. You want the lightning-fast, no-nonsense connection of a 2.4GHz RF dongle? You got it. You want to connect it to your laptop on the road without sacrificing a precious USB port? Flip a switch, and the Bluetooth comes alive. It even works flawlessly on Linux, a land where so many other pieces of hardware fear to tread. Yes, the official software snubs the penguin, but who needs it? The glorious, open-source commandos at OpenRGB have cracked the code, giving you full control over the lighting. And the buttons… good heavens, the buttons. The Titan Optical Switches give you a crisp, clean, and immediate click. But the secret weapon, the little ace up its sleeve, is the Easy-Shift[+] button. With a single press of your thumb, your entire button layout gets a second layer of commands. Your six-button mouse suddenly becomes an eleven-button command center. It’s a tactical advantage so profound it feels like cheating. Then there's the power plant. This is not some weak, sealed-in battery that will wither and die after a year, turning your expensive mouse into a paperweight. No, this beast runs on good, old-fashioned AA batteries. And the engineering is brilliant—it can run on a single AA for a lighter feel, or two in parallel for an absolutely absurd, 800-hour battery life. It is a marathon runner in a world of sprinters. For the money, the Kone Air is an incredible value. You are getting a hefty, comfortable, well-built mouse with a top-tier sensor, dual-wireless connectivity, and a level of customizability that is second to none. It is a five-star champion for those of us who still believe a tool should have some soul, some substance, some damn heft.

Works awesome
Ive gone through a few mice, i really like this one. The option to use the usb wireless, or to use the bluetooth is great, the battery options, the different buttons, the way it sits in my hand, the different speeds at the click of a button, its a really nice mouse through and through

1 year and 5 months, still going strong
I like this mouse so much that I bought a second for a backup. I have big hands and this mouse is one of the biggest I've found. It's also decently light for it's size. I used a AAA battery converter with a lithium rechargeable battery to keep the weight down even more as I like a lighter mouse. The side grips are excellent and give you a good grip on the mouse. I also really like the easy-shift key. I have several macros bound to the mouse wheel so it works out well for productivity as the mouse has extra virtual buttons when you depress the easy-shift key. I've also been using this mouse for 1 year and 5 months at the time of this review. It's been used Monday through Friday for the entirety of my work days and it's never skipped a beat. The mouse feet were a little scratchy out of the box, but that went away quickly with use. Great mouse and I've got a backup if this one ever decides to die.

I LOVE my new mouse!!!
UPDATE: My new mouse used my 2 AA batteries from Rayovac, and they lasted ALL the way from November 10th 2022 when i first received the shipment of the mouse and started using it, ALL THE WAY to March 30th 2023 which is today! THAT IS FIVE MONTHS on only 2 AA batteries!!!! I did use it almost always in BlueTooth (USB3) mode (and not in regular dongle mode) but still ... WOW!!!!!MY REVIEW is now upgraded from 3 stars (because i hated the easyshift button placement to 4 stars because of SUCH GREAT battery life / such tiny power use from the mouse in BlueTooth mode!!!!)MY PREVIOUS mouse, a Logitech wireless, i went through 2 AAs EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!!!This mouse has now lasted FIVE MONTHS on just the same 2 AA batteries!!!!I LOVE my new mouse ... but i really do not like where they put the "EasyShift" button as i tend to use mice ambidextrously and when i am holding it in my left hand i am always accidentally pressing that lowermost EasyShift button and it tends to cause a lot of problems. I guess i should have waited to see if they'd make a similar model mouse that was more ambi friendly.Otherwise i love this mouse and i am very much looking forward to seeing how long my new batteries last according to their advertised "800 hours" (on bluetooth only, using 2 AA's, probably)I also wish they had made 2 switches on the bottom, 1 for on/off and the other for mode select (normal or bluetooth). i do not really find it all that easy or convenient with it being a 3-position switch. oh well. It glides smooth and feels nice in my hand and is very similar to my previous mouse, which had developed horrible double-click problems the Logitech G602. This mouse from Roccat has OPTICAL SWITCHES so this problem is NOT SUPPOSED to crop up. But i guess we'll see. The switches on this new mouse do have a decent mechanical feel to them, despite being TITAN optical.I also love that this new Roccat mouse barely has any LEDs on it -- i prefer performance over looks and so this really does mean it should save a ton on battery power over the future.
