must try harder
i bought a playstation 2 last year and bought this game before i even got the console so i was really looking forward to it. the graphics were good and it was easy to learn moves and suchlike. the longevity however is poor. i was bored after a week of this.i heard murmurs on sites that here comes the pain was better even though it was a year older so i bought it on another site for a fiver. i have to say i enjoy it more and still have it whereas ive sold this one on another site.what i like about it - the graphics are great, the majority of looks of the wrestlers are spot on, the create a wrestler is very good and you can more than ever now create someone which is instantly recognisable. the royal rumble is vastly improved. the challenges are a nice addition which prolongs the game somewhat.what i dont like - thats the point the challenges i think were put in there because they realised the season mode was very samey, too short and relied on silly storylines with the divas, as if you would want to fight over sable. in hctp, you could put your created wrestlers on the season mode. this time you cant and you get bored having to face the same wrestlers. this is because the roster is cut as well. at time of games make, the wwe was short on stars what with lesnar, goldberg, stone cold all leaving and nobody coming in to replace them. the voiceovers have been added and dont add much, after a while you will turn the volume down cos you have heard the same phrases a hundred times before.i hope they listen to the fans of the series so they know what to change next time. the divas are a waste of time and should not be in the game.

just how i remember the game just feels like being back at school
good game if you where a fan of it back 9/10 years ago not as good as the smackdown games for gameplay wise but svr does look better for ps2 anyway but you dont come back to the ps2 expecting rich graphics because if thats the case just stick to wwe 2k14 this game does have a good roster decent match types and you have a season mode aswell

Alright for the time.
This was a fine game at the time but suffered from a dated engine and graphics.

Don't believe the Hype.
Well having read the reviews I finally gave in and bought this 6th game in the smackdown series. The in-ring action was some of the best I have seen from the series, but for me personally I get these games for the caw modes and I have to say in the Move set area I was highly disappointed. The moves available are quite poor, many of the good moves from previous games have been removed and NONE of the "signature" moves are available to use in the "signature grapple moves" area. Highly disappointing. I found myself having to fit nearly all my 16 moves from HCTP submission/Signature/Power/Quick grapple areas in to the SvR power section and many were not available in the other sections. 16 moves down to just 4? Poor effort to say the least. Many of the superstars in the game have poor move lists due to the poor organisation of the move sets and improving them proves to be very difficult as their signature moves are all in the power section. Take Eddie Guerrero's 3amigos (suplexes) a clear signature move yet is only available in the power section. I honestly believe that the move sets option is the worst out of the series.Create-a-belt is something many SD series gamers have longed for and I can't help but feel disappointed with it. While many knew CABs would only be in use in the Create-a-PPV option you cannot actually defend them. If you are playing on your own only the CPU will defend the belts you can only win them. Tag-Team belts unfortunately cannot be created at all. It does, however, offer better use if you are playing with a friend. As far as the CAW feature goes it is ok. With practice you can create some good caws although I find creating heads is quite difficult if you are making a real person/wrestler. Thankfully there are a lot more options than there were in HCTP and a return of body hair that many people missed. One thing that caw makers may appreciate is the ability to change the size of female caws bust. Where as in the past breasts were a fixed size (which to me looked more like balloon implants) you can now change their size and shape to whatever you need. The in-ring work is certainly it's best feature (but then it's a wrestling game so it should be) with the addition of pre-fight mini games such as the test of strength, shoving contests and stare-downs the game does take on a slightly more realistic feel. One area I feel a bit of a let down is again the submission system, there are now two systems one is the same as HCTP the new one gives the ability to reverse the holds as well as escape. The let down comes with the realisation that not all the submission/sleeper holds use the system which gives a slightly unfinished feel, but this can easily be forgotten and with other improvements such as the ability to break up submission holds is quite useful particularly in 3/4way matches and tag matches; as when your partner is locked in a hold you can hit the opponent to break it.The biggest let down on the in-ring elements is easily the season mode. Unlike its predecessor HCTP, the season storylines are highly repetitive particularly if you hold a title. (World heavyweight, WWE title, US & IC titles are the only titles in the game) If you play with a wrestler that isn't very over then you will get a few extra storylines but very soon you will find yourself repeating the same old storylines and often with the same opponents as before. Also unlike HCTP you can no longer "save" season data after you complete it. If you intend to go through a second year with the same wrestler then all is fine and you can save the data - but if you intend to go through the season with a different wrestler all the season data is reset to default much like SYM. The choices you make in season make little difference in how season mode unfolds. Your choices will either make you heel/dirty or face/clean, but the most storylines unfolds the same way whichever disposition you have. In many ways SvR's season mode feels like a big step backwards from last year's game and I for one am highly disappointed with it and many other aspects of the game.If you are after a good wrestling game then this game is as good as any out there, but if like me your main focus is the create-a-wrestler area you may want to give this game a miss and pick up either Shut Your Mouth or Here Comes The Pain.I have had this game five days and already have had enough of it, many good ideas were added by THQ but in my opinion they were implemented very poorly.Rent it before you buy it.
