Beautiful, high quality dishes that have a long life
You cannot go wrong with these. We bought our first large set of Portmeirion Botanic Garden dishes, assorted bowls, mugs, serving dishes, etc. back in 1982 on our honeymoon in Bermuda. They are beautiful and have held up, almost all of them are into their fourth decade. Gradually, we have had to replace several that were under daily use from losses due accidents - and only a few due to age. Not bad in terms of decades of use, going from the oven to table and thousands of dishwasher cycles. Instead of the regular Botanicals my wife elected to try out the Exotic Botanic Garden variety. These blend in well with the regular botanical dishes with perhaps a little more flare. Otherwise, they remain the same in terms of beauty, quality and longevity. We use them for everyday dining and for entertaining. - JPK

Beautiful plate for display
It’s a beautiful plate that I will be using as a wall hanging. It came quickly and was wrapped well in bubble wrap to protect it during shipping.

Wonderful!
This is a wonderful set of dinner plates. We needed to replace a broken plate from our set of dishes (I dropped it on our hard tile floor and it shattered into a million pieces). We could either buy one plate for about $34 or a set of 6 for $99. So we bought 6. They match perfectly in design and size. Love them - especially the recently added sunflower plate!

These are truly beautiful
I have been a fan of Portmeirion since the mid 1970's. I was very excited to see that there were additional dinner plates that I could add to two previous editions (1972 and approximately 2003) to give my set 18 different designs. The three different issues blend together nicely. Don't let the word "Exotic" deter you from adding to any of the other editions of these plates. To me, these are just another extension to a beautiful line of dinnerware. There are some actual plate design differences between the three editions, however, they still stack nicely and no one would probably notice unless they look at the plates' undersides to detect this. One of the plates from this specific set does have several flaws on its underside. Not sure how this will hinder the plate's performance in the future, but I'll update this review if I notice anything that causes me to reduce this rating to 4 stars instead of 5. Finally, my experience with Portmeirion as a whole has been a good one. In the 40+ years that I have owned this line, I have had only two "casualties" with neither being a fault of the manufacture of the dish. These dishes have held up to everyday use and are still almost as beautiful as the day I got them. I expect the same from this recent purchase and I highly recommend that anyone interested in Portmeirion to give this set a try. They are truly beautiful.

Broken on arrival.
AT least four plates were broken on arrival. I can't fully unpack the items because broken pieces of the dishes are falling out of the box,

wonderful plates
I had the same situation, where one plate was crushed. What a shame it is too, because I wonder what will happen to the rest of the plates when I return them. My replacements came packaged the same way, but this time all were in good condition. i ordered the Holly and the Ivey set too earlier, and they came fine -- from Fed Ex, as did my replacement set of Botanicals, but the set of Bo's that had a plate crushed was USPS! I am not even sure why my H&I set came Fed Ex, but I am glad because did not want to wait to use them!At any rate, these plates feel good in the hand, have nice deep edges/rims to keep food from easily sliding out - a plus for living room eating. The illustrations are very well done too. I wish there were more!I am into gardening, and it appears that the flowers on the plates are not typical here in the States, but for the peony. No matter, just a tid-bit. Who knows I may be wrong, and living in Maryland, I am only going with what grows in this growing zone.Cheers and enjoy!
