What is the width of the bar itself(the grip)?

I'm unclear what is being asked here. On my bar the grips (two of them) are a kind of padded fabric band 4 to 4½ inches wide, secured around the bar by Velcro. These can be slid closer towards the midpoint of the bar or alternately towards the endpoints of the bar, so they can be close together (even touching) or farther apart, however you choose to place them.
