Recommend 2wt or 3wt?

I’d recommend 3wt-it is typically the starting point for euro-specific styles. With their length, soft tip, and heavy butt, these style rods fish ~2 line weights heavier than the AFTMA rating. I’m also targeting larger/stronger fish, suckers and smallmouth with the occasional trout excursion.

has anyone else experienced the reel seat loosens by itself no matter how hard the twist screw washer is hand tightened on the reel?...

That is fairly common on most maxcatch poles i have used. If you check it each time you go out you should be fine. Or you can put a thin rubber band on the threads right before you cinch it down the nut to the reel. that holds it for a few months

What line weight/diameter pairs best with this rod?

I use a standard Euro Nymphing line - not sure if it’s Rio or SA. Works great!

It's better than a orvis clearwater. I have both and other euro rods. The maxcatch is my go to for sensitivity and tippet protection for large fish.
