Wow, it’s incredible!
So I was looking at setting up a real home theater set up in the living room to replace the Samsung sound bar that I had in the living room. However, the living room isn’t big enough, and the setting space is out of wack since we’re in an apartment. So I decided that if I can’t do a home theater, then I’ll just upgrade the current sound bar that I have. I wanted wireless rear speakers, and Dolby Atmos is a must because I have that in my bedroom.I decided to go with the LG SK10Y and purchase the wireless rear speakers separately. I was debating Samsung, however the price for their Atmos sound bar was expensive and at that price I would have just done the home theater set up and ignore the spacing issues and seating. The LG I got a great deal on, that I couldn’t just pass up. I did my research, and I heard that some were complaining that dialogue was terrible and is drowned out by other sounds like music or background noise.I don’t see or hear this issue, and compared to my Samsung HW-H7500 it wildly superior in that feature.I was watching The Haunting of Hill House with my Samsung sound bar before I set up the LG. The Samsung sound good, however whenever the dialogue went to whispering it seemed muddled and the audio clarity wasn’t good. However, the LG was fantastic in this department. The audio was clear, crisp in both whispering and loud sounds. The music isn’t over powering, nor overshadowing the dialogue. The wireless rear speakers are also fantastic, although the wires for the speakers themselves should have been longer. I also think LG should have included a wall mount for the speakers. All in all, I’m in LOVE with the sound bar.

Great all-in-one surround system if space or complexity is a problem for you.
Overall I really like the unit, my intended use case is to improve my TV's sound in our primary viewing environment where a full separate multi channel system and all its associated wiring isn't practical (ie wife approval) for general viewing (that's what the basement home theater is for). This is also my first foray into Dolby Atmos before i spend several grand updating my old 7.1 channel system. It does a great job filling a small to medium room with convincing surround sound for such a compact (not small) system. It is even better once you add the optional wireless rears which enhance the virtual sound placement with actual rear drivers which really helps the illusion of the heights and side surrounds which even without the kit is surprisingly believable. I experienced none of the vocal clarity issues reported by others as the unit came pre-installed with the firmware fix (and I wonder how much of that was people being in the "wrong" sound mode) Mid's and highs are articulate without being bright, bass is pretty lacking without the sub-woofer which means the sub is having to fill in a lot of important frequencies which takes away it's capability to dd punch for really low frequency which can be an issue with sound filled action sequences. The bar has a really low profile which is great to get it under a tv screen but it also means all but the up firing Atmos speakers have really small drivers that just can't output much low end. With the sub in the mix you don't really notice it for most content, everything sounds natural, and it's leaps and bounds over almost any modern tvs base sound, but the sub is so busy handling all that, that it can lack presence when it's really needed to add that rumble. It sounds more like a really good full range system, than it does a system with a dedicated sub. In addition the sub has a really hard time keeping up at louder volumes, anything above about the halfway mark (20) it often gets over powered by the other 7/9 speakers. I wish (especially for this price point) that they either included a beefier sub, allowed for 2 subs (wired or wireless), or implemented it in such a way that you could replace the sub later by just having the wireless bass module be separate from the driver like the surround setup where you could change out the actual sub later. That said it fills my needs fine and works great for more casual viewing, the Atmos really gives you that added immersion and it really fills the gap between me wanting more realistic multi-positional sound and my family wanting ease of use, low clutter, no wire aesthetic especially when they are fine watching a movie on the tv's included speakers. At the retail price it is a significant value though I agree it should come bundled with the rears and make it a more solid buy over the sk9y little brother, though I will say he Meridian influence is evident and the sound modes do a great job at optimizing the speakers for the content you are watching plus a little extra wattage never hurts. if you can get it for even close to what i paid, it's a no brainer. I picked mine up for an absolute steal at $475 new open box no damage and the rears on sale new for $125 so for $600 total i have a 7.1.2 system that blends in to my decor and has a total of 1 hdmi cable 2 speaker cables, and 3 power cords. As long as you don't need room shaking base, DTS:X height support (it plays the DTS core fine) or any kind of real upgrade path (besides the rear kit which as far as i am concerned is an automatic get as soon as you can) this is a great system at a great value to any of the competitors I've researched.

Sk9y better
These soundbar sounded muffled. I liked the sk9y sound quality was better don’t like the design but I can get over it when I only paid 449.00 for it. With better sound. I know there is better Soundbars out there but really wanted to have everything LG

Very good sound bar
I’m very pleased with the LG SK10Y sound bar quality and value, although, I don’t think the surround sound would have been nearly as good if I hadn’t also purchased the rear speaker kit (you have to get the rear speakers!). Dialog was sometimes drowned out by background noise/music, but I cranked the center channel way up, and it’s much better now. It integrates perfectly with my LG TV, so I don’t need to use the sound bar remote. If you need to change the individual speaker/channel volumes, as I did, it’s much easier to do using the mobile app.

Average Performance - 6 Year old $200 Polk Soundbar sounds way better
Pleasantly surprised Dolby Atmos is great …. I'm not easily impressed but the overall sound quality is average dynamics, smooth and setup was easy. Connected with HDMI 2.1 improves performance. You'll need to download the LG Wi-fi Speaker app from the playstore (or iTunes if your stuck with an iPhone), update the speaker firmware and your off to the races. I have had some issues with lip-sync on youtube otherwise good elsewhere , the virtual surround, is well virtually non-existent.

Sub woofer died after 11 months
I'm new to this sound bar faze. I always had a dedicated A/V amplifier to power the speakers and control the inputs to the TV. Buying a 4K TV forced me to explore other options for A/V. This LG sounded great when it worked but the amplifier constantly changes inputs to ASC whenever it was turned on requiring the input to be changed to the correct (previous) input - very annoying. It recognized the AppleTV about half the time requiring us to reboot the AppleTV in order for it to connect. The worst part is the sub woofer died 11 months after purchasing. I Neve had a sound system work so poorly and unpredictably in the past 40 years (I had my first Panasonic receiver at 16). I feel that LG threw this amp together just to have an amp to go with this TV's. What should I have expected from a company that make refrigerators?
