The book is aimed at American middle class high school students. It has some useful stuff in about study skills. A lot of the book looks at extra curricular activities which would enable young people have strong university application. The premise being rather than going to go to lots of clubs your are better focusing on an excellent project.It assumes young people and their families have a network of contacts. It gave examples young person living next door to a professor of Marine Biology doing projects as a volunteer and eventually writing papers.A young woman doing voluntary work in a school and leading a literacy project in inner city LA.It might work in suburban LA - but as a strategy for getting to University I cannot see it working for youngsters living in a low income estate in South Shields.
