How deep do they sing into the wood?

I made a two-stage rout; about 1/8" deep for the outer perimeter (where the screw holes are), and then about 1/2" deep for the deeper part, where the handle is mounted. This ensured that the handle is flush with my floor surface, and no one will trip over it.
