5 star show- lets hope we get the rest of the seasons
Lots of very unhappy people in the US have wanted this to be released for years. The first mini-season was released but later seasons only been available as very expensive streaming video - and then only to US residents. Finally the first two seasons get a UK release - lets hope there is enough interest for the rest of the series to be released too.The series is based in a gritty Boston law firm based in the underbelly of Boston society and the lawyers do whatever is necessary to get their sleezy, usually guilty, clients off.Doesn't sound a promising idea but the cast is brilliant and it is full of dark, often bizarre, humour as well as a lot of character development within the firm. This was written by David E Kelley and ran at the same time as his other shows Ally McBeal (about a surreal law firm) and Boston Public (about the school system). In later series there are crossover episodes where cases occur across the two series. You don't need to watch Ally McBeal or Boston Public to know what is going on but it is a brilliant idea - all the more remarkable because Ally McBeal is almost the anti-Practice - a firm so frivolous and zany that they seem to be on completely different planets. If you want to see some of the best drama from US TV this is a must buy - plus it will help to encourage the release of the other seasons. As a last word - the final season (8) is basically the springboard into Boston Legal (which went in another totally different direction) and introduces us to a rather darker version of Crane, Poole & Schmidt through the characters of Denny Crane, Alan Shore and Tara - the last two of which emerged from the series The Practice and carried over into Boston Legal.

Practice makes Perfect
Some amazing shows have come out from America. This is one of them. From the incredible and clever opening music (ep.2 0n )comprised of an exciting repetitive beat and punctuated with slamming cell doors, pistol shots, typewriter sounds and street cars honking through to the thought provoking, ethics searching, creative storytelling, each episode will carry you through an array of emotions. As has already been written, the Practice is about a small law-firm in Boston. It deals with the lives and personalities of those who work within it and the legal cases they are involved in. And the episodes don't always have happy Hollywood endings. The characters have their flaws and frailties and sometimes they do not always succeed. Right is not always done.If you have enjoyed dramas such as Hill Street Blues and Chicago Hope you will no doubt enjoy The Practice. The genres are different - the style and quality are similar. Superb writing, excellent acting and a wonderful pace which can include tension, sadness, and humour all within the same storyline.I have owned the box set of series one and two for some time. I have just bought a second set as a birthday present. If you are an intelligent viewer who likes to be entertained by thought provoking yet totally satisfying drama then The Practice is for you.Where are all the other episodes? I want them.

HERE'S WHAT HASN'T BEEN SAID BEFORE ABOUT THIS SHOW
A lot has been said about the quality of this show and i subscribe: Probably the best series David E. Kelley ever created (and that IS saying something). The themes and general tone is more serious than Boston Legal and Ally McBeal and the stories are positively riveting. I once received a call at 3:00 AM - that's when the show was on here - from a friend saying: "Dude! Did you just watch the episode of The Practice?!". Other time i saw an episode so thought-provoking about euthanasia i had to bring it to a Civics class and got a heated discussion on the topic going. The show, my opinion, did start to lose team around season 7 but got ressurected on season 8, introducing Alan Shore, which would spin-off Boston Legal. But all that has been said. HERE'S WHAT HASN'T BEEN SAID:I already had these two seasons which i now re-purchased, until the publisher here dropped distribution. When i heard that Medium Rare had purchased the distribution rights for the show, i bought it AGAIN in hopes of contributing to the sales figures and help the other seasons get launched. Wouldn't do it for any other show but this one is that good...

Not happy with the recordings
Not happy with the recordings, some missing - a dodgy buy for me I think so very disappointed as I already had series 123 as a box set.

No subtitles
I'm afraid we have been spoilt by DVDs with subtitles so that when we come across something like The Practice with actors who mumble their lines we get a feeling of annoyance that removes any posiive appreciation of the DVD in question. I would suggest that Amazon might see its way to persuading the producers of subtitle-less DVDS to add subtitles to them before putting them on the market and to clearly indicate this when offering the product.
