Great beginner handheld!
This might be the best small vertical handheld emulator on the market for PS1 & below. It's a great first purchase for anyone who wants to get into retro handhelds.

Fun handheld gamer!
Super cute little hand held gaming system. The purple brick color is exactly as it appears. It comes with its own case, charging cord and more. It advertises that it can be connected but I have not tried that yet. I know that a previous review states they had issues with wifi connectivity but I have not had a need to do that. This handheld has games that are enjoyable to play for my children. The handheld is sturdy and reminds me of retro gameboy systems. The graphics aren't horrible on this and there are lots of games to play. I have not gone through them all but so far we like it. This is great for travel due to its portability. Overall for the price it is a cool toy, but I am not sure I would get it again at its current price.

Massivly overhyped! (Updated review after several months of usage and OS updates)
*** UPDATED REVIEW 6-25-25 ***After several months of ownership of many of these units (at least one in each color) that have been sent to me for review, I now I have to update the rating from 4-star down to 2-star. Why? This thing is so over-hyped it's bonkers. The glowing reviews of this device must stem from a couple of factors...1. styling and general build quality. I admit, it looks stylish and feels great in the hand from a quality perspective.2. People don't know what they're reviewing. They must not have a point of comparison in the same price catagory to know how over-hyped and under-powered this thing is!3. People have a tendancy to want to justify their purchase (even if it were a mistake or underwelming) and thus become "fanboyz" regardless of observable reality.I think it's a combination of all 3. This (beautiful) contraption can't even emulate PS1 using the PSX Rearmed Core at a simple 2x upscale. It can't emulate Dreamcast without massive frame drop and audio studdering. Yeah, you can tweak emulator settings, but is that what a novice is going to do when they just want to play a game and are not very technical? No, they are not.I've waited for the official release of CrossMix 1.4 for this device. It hasn't happened yet and there's no sign it will be happening soon. The stock OS that comes with these from TrimUI is "servicable" at best. There there's alternative firmware OS options like MinUI, NextUI and PakUI and others. The best I've used is PakUI as it provides proper WIFI support while having similar features to the unbeatable (in it's price catagory) Miyoo Mini Plus. Even with that, it still SUFFERS with poor performance.I don't want to hear from the "fanboyz" that "You don't know what you're talking about! This has a more powerful CPU than the Miyoo Mini Plus!!!". Color me impressed. Not. I don't care how much more powerful a CPU is on paper. If the software doesn't use it properly, then it's worse. That's what is happening here in my EXPERT observation. Why are you a self proclaimed expert?I have been sent well over 100 emulator devices for review on here ranginst from the cheapest of the cheap scammer junk, to high end units like the Anbernic 556. I've reviewed basically every handheld with every version of Linux based firmwares (both stock and custom) and lots of Andriod based emulators using a varity of front end interfaces and direct emulators.Nothing has been as underwhelming at the TrimUI brick because nothing has had as much hype surrounding it as this device has.If you want a pocketable EDC (Every Day Carry) retro emulator AND you want it to be inexpensive AND you want it to performe above it's price class AND you want it to be th easiest device in the entire product catagory AND you want it to be DEAD SIMPLE to setup, then just do yourself a favor and get a Miyoo Mini Plus and download OnionOS and call it a day!*** ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW ***I was awaiting eagerly for the arrival of this deivce given all the hype of the popular youtube retro reviewers out there. They all went on and one about how nice it was, but now looking back on it, they all seem to gloss over the negatives of this device...Shocking, I know. With that being said, there is HUGE potential here, as is the case with most (if not all) of these retro emulators, no matter what brand (miyoo, anbernic, retroid, etc...). It's the 3rd party custom firmware creators who are often responsbile for unlocking these devices. For this device, it will be when CrossMix OS is ported over to it.As of this review, there are multiple 3rd party custom firmwares being developed (Knulli, MinUI, and CrossMix OS). Also, as of this review, none of them are ready for prime time and are not better than the stock experience (too many bugs). As for the hardware review:Network Connection: WIFI is a mess. Sometimes it connect and others it won't even show the list of available access points. It's not great at the moment (at least for me).Display: Although the screen is sharp and has decent max and min brightness, the screen has visible power distortion at mid-to-higher levels of brightness. (again, at least on my unit)Box Art Scraping: There seems to be no easy way to add box art to the ROMs list in the stock OS. This will likely change with CrossMix and/or Knulli OS'esTempature while playing: The back of the device gets uncomfortably hot when playing anything above NES. Even SNES gets toasty and PS1 or Sega Saturn are down right too hot after a while.I tried the alpha build of Knulli for the TrimUI Brick and although there is huge potential, it too is buggy, but that's expected and will eventually get worked out if those 3rd party devlopers stay on it.In it's stock form, it will play games and is decent, but frustrating at times. Overall build quality is impressive and it "feels" solid. The software just isn't there yet. 100%, it is going to get fixed by the community. That takes time. When better and more stable/feature rich firmware options come out for this device, it's going to be a 5 star unit. I don't think it will be a Miyoo Mini killer as it has been reported.Right now...this is a 4-star device for me.
