Great book fantastic as a teaching aid
I bought this book as my daughter's work is featured inside. I was very proud to buy a copy. After looking through it in more depth I realised what a fantastic teaching aid it is.I am a secondary school textile teacher and I am going to buy another copy to use in the classroom.Children of this age tend to struggle to research and connect inspiration past and present so this is a very helpful and interesting book.Well done,Thank you,

Fantastic insight into the world of fashion.
The World of fashion has always interested me, and I've never really known anything about the process of how ideas are formulated and make their way onto catwalks and into shops. This book is a great eye opener into the World of fashion. Using the case studies of many famous designers, the book takes you through their journey of inspiration, design and creation with an in-depth look at all of the processes involved.I have a new found respect for fashion and fashion designers because of this book!

Facinating insight into visual inspiration in fashion
The Fashion Resource Book is a fascinating insight into the ways in which top designers are inspired by history, art, street wear, the military, the materials themselves and earlier fashions. Primarily aimed at students and professional designers, it is lucidly written and accessible for the ordinary reader. This is a very well researched, written and presented book. Beginning with a short historical overview, it goes on to examine the research process of eleven top designers before plunging into the meat of the book, which is overview and examples of how a rich mix of inspirations have influenced the fashion world. The parallels are given exactly, showing, for example, a 1925 Hussar photograph followed by the 2008 Alexander McQueen jacket that it inspired. These pairings are consistently good, giving not just evidence for the book's main point -- the inspiration for fashion is everywhere -- but detailed insights into how designers interpreted and reinterpreted what they found. We are all consumers of fashion, even if we resolutely try not to be. This book gives the uninitiated a gorgeous introduction to where it all comes from. It will doubtless also be a source of information for those for whom fashion is the day job.

A must have for fashion students!
As stated in Shelley Fox's foreword 'This invaluable book' and for any current or prospective fashion student, this book will make a great resource to have to hand. The book starts at the very beginning - the research process as described by many of the world's fashion designers before looking into the inspiration of many different styles of clothing, including sportswear, uniforms and heritage. The third section of the book are filled with case studies of many designers. The book is filled with plenty of inspiration, lots of beautiful photographs and illustrations which encompass the history of fashion. It is a well researched and informatively written text which will suit fashion students of all ages.It would make a great gift for fashion students but would be just as well received as a coffee table book to pick up and dip into at any time for inspiration or to loose yourself in.

Ideal for A level and college
This is an ideal resource for A level students looking to build up their portfolios. What this covers, that is lacking in a lot of similar works, is that it provides a good understanding of how fashion designers find their influence and then translate that into their collections. Since getting this volume it has found a place in our local secondary where the textile and art students use it to help provide a foundation for them to build up a portfolio of work and influences prior to moving on to college.Highly recommended.

A must have for anyone interested in fashion.
This book appears to be aimed at fashion design students, however it is a must for anyone interested in fashion at any level. It is all about where designers get their inspiration from. How they take inspiration and turn it into catwalk masterpieces. The book is packed full of photographs. Photographs of the things that inspire the designers, their moodboards, sketches and the finished pieces. The book is tastefully curated, and revels in the beauty and artistry of fashion. It is also the best book I have seen at explaining the process of fashion. The book is easily accessible to anyone, the text is straight forward and the photographs are interesting. One of the most exciting books about fashion I have seen for a long time. Inspirational.

My daughter loved this!
My daughter is mad about fashion and so this was a dream book for her when I got it. To date she has not raved highly about it but she says she continually keeps reading and so I suspect it is more an easy to use reference work, with very wide coverage by a word range of experts on the different subjects covered. She specifically likes the tracking of how ideas develop and the research needed to succeed plus understanding that very minor changes can make a critical difference as well as major changes. If you are looking at how to access and improve your understanding of fashion designs this seems a good place to start in having on your bookshelf.
