So I went through the reviews and was trying to find a way to leverage the ram mounts with this. My initial thoughts were "Yes! based on all these reviews, this will work." I bought the 1/4-20 ram ball to screw into the base after removing the 17mm ball (literally nothing fits this size) that comes on there. However, the newer model doesn't match the item in the product picture and the screw size has been reduced so that the 1/4-20 ram ball no longer fits in there. I guess they got hip to what people were doing and changed their design. I scoured the internet looking for the older model, but all are sold out/out of stock/ back-ordered except here. As for the install and sturdiness of it, those were fine and it was an easy fit on the bike. Initially thought of returning it since it is almost useless, but I decided I would make a way for this to work. Once I figure it out, I'll update and add pictures showing everything.

Not sure where the negative reviews are stemming from. Do the research and you'll learn that this stem mount is a 17mm ball. Everybody knows RAM products use a 1" ball. Just get a RAM 1" ball with a 1/4"-20 thread, a bit of blue Loctite and you're good to go. There are even YouTube videos out there for this simple 2 minute installation procedure.It took me longer to get the battery panel off my '15 FJR and set up the Garmin's wiring than it did to install this item.

Made specifically for the Yamaha FJR. NOTE: All Techmounts use ONLY a 17mm ball-end. NOT a 1"-25mm ball end. Which I found out the hard way. Easy fix buying a competitor's one-inch ball.

Used together with their (Techmount 4-Techgripper) cell phone gripper this setup is absolutely awesome. As you may know, an FJR-1300 doesn't have round handlebars and their is not much room to add to the bar. The center mount these guys made is excellent and frankly, superior to a handlebar mount for the following reasons:1. Able to access easily with either hand (center mounted).2. Doesn't obstruct view to the instrument gauges.3. Simple install.If you own an FJR and want a mount for your (whatever) this is the ball joint to get (in combination with the 4-Techgripper.

Luckily, my cousin had a 36mm socket, I wouldn't have wanted to try using any other tools to remove and install. With the socket (and my torque wrench) it was a simple job. They give you the two allen wrenches you'll need. I also bought the i.Trek Universal Bracket/Cradlehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBLJ53Eand it holds my Sony Z1 just fine (have to off-center the phone, to avoid clamping the buttons). The cradle (plastic) doesn't grab the ball mount (metal) as tightly as I would like, might have to add some tape shim as another review suggests.

Easy to install and works as advertised. Have had it installed for about 2 months now.
