How much it can pull out of 4xAA to charge your mobile? any real-life example of this being used a power bank?

Depending on MAH of NicD/NIMH/NiZn and alkaline (possibly Lithium rechargeable with 1.5volts). this will differ. None of these chargers combined each Mah cell into parallel. They combined into Series to bump their lower 1.2/1.5volts to near 5volts. ether 4.8 or 6.0volts and regulates the voltage to 5volts. So the Mah will be whatever % is the batteries are in single cell %. So if you use 2300 that's 11.1watt hours of power at 4.8volts, and 2500mah would be around 13-14wh. Not as great as most phones are that are around 20-30wh's. So you'd be using roughly 3 set of 4x batteries to fully recharge modern phones. These are mainly designed now for something basic and low end like a older device that doesn't have a Large wh base, like a 3ds/2ds,etc or game controllers, USB rechargeable headsets/bluetooth devices,etc.

Flashing/blinking red means “invalid battery.” For some reason the charger doesn’t like the battery. It’s happened to me a few times. Other chargers I have were able to handle those batteries.

Where's the retractable ac plug? the product description says "the cc87 panasonic battery charger also features a convenient retractable ac plug".

I have a BQ-CC87 and it does not have a retractable AC plug. Some other models do. The BQ-CC87 has a USB micro connector input. You need a USB charger like the one that you use for your cell phone to charge the batteries. It is a nice charger with features that other chargers do not have.

In the discharge mode can less than four batteries be used by filling the empty battery slots with dummy or placeholder batteries?

I tried it and it did work with 3 on mine. I had them in the 3 left slots.
