When the insert is in place, what is the distance between the bottom of the insert and the bottom of the pot?

The pot is 9" deep. The steamer insert is 3" deep. The pasta insert hangs only 7" deep into the pot. The pasta insert is 9 1/2" deep, so there is 2 1/2" of the insert above the top edge of the pot. The pot is 10" diameter.

In What country was this pot made?

The box says "Made and printed in China." So I assume box and pot came from China. I like to buy U.S products when available but fewer and fewer are manufactured here. Cheers!

Could you cook a pound of spaghetti in the strainer basket?

You can fit more than a pound. I've cooked two to three pounds at one time in the large strainer. The small one is only for streaming.
