Gaviscon Alumina and Magnesium Trisilicate/Antacid, Original Flavor, Chewable Tablets, 100-Count Bottle (Pack of 3)

I am a GERD sufferer and I use this antacid "as needed". The taste is absolutely great. It contains magnesium trisilicate instead of Magnesium Hydroxide that the extra strength version contains. Magnesium Hydroxide (milk of magnesia) is a laxative. I did not give it 5 stars because it also contains Sodium Bicarbonate, although the label does not say how much. Sodium Bicarbonate is not recommended because it can make you urine alkaline and produce kidney stones. However, since Sodium Bicarbonate it is not listed as one of the active ingredients, it might be that it contains very little, but we do not know for certain. It must be realized that none of the available antacids is 100% safe, all of them have their side effects.

I have used this product for years. It is the only antacid on the marked that not only reduces stomachacid. It also sets up a barrier to keep the acid from coming up into your your throat.

This is the only OTC antacid that is specially formulated for acid reflux. In the last 8 years it's become difficult to find retailers that carry it. Then recently even those retailers no longer carried "Gaviscon, Regular strength" (blue label). Excuse was that the newer ones do the same thing. That is not so, and I've the experience-I tried every other one that they have-not one was effective for "ACID REFLUX" . I was quite surprised to find it offered on AMAZON. What a god send. It's worth every penny. The difference is that this product sits on top of any stomack content, and when reflux occurs-the GAVISCON comes up first-providing protection to the esophagus. Granted, it is a old product, but it works well-none of their NEW GAVISCONS do.

Thank God Amazon continues to sell this product. No other Over the Counter or prescription medicine relieves my acid reflux symptoms like this original strength Gaviscon. I've been using it for over 10 years and I'm still pleased with the results. It's the only product I know of where the extra strength version is not even the same ingredient as the original strength. Why the manufacturer labeled the product this way is a mystery to me.

Thank You Amazon for having my Gaviscon tablets, regular strength...for some reason, and i wish i knew what that reason was, the stores in my area do Not carry the Gaviscon regular strength tablets anymore....only the Extra Strength which do NOT contain the same ingredients, and do NOTwork on my reflux problem.....This version of Gaviscon has the aluminum hydroxide and the magnesium trisilicate which is the only thing that really works to make a barrier stopping the acid from coming up to the esophagus from the stomach....a wonderful product that has saved me alot of pain and discomfort with acid reflux.....

This is a good product. When you chew it, it gets a bit foamy...different than just an antacid. But that is becuz it will keep the acid down...like a barricade, and that is what yu want if ya have GERD.I tried the liquid, which is better, but got it from New Zealand. Too expensive. But they offered a licorice flavor that I liked.Thank you Gaviscon!!!!Jan

I don't know why but it is almost impossible to find in stores anything but the "extra-strength." But the extra-strength is an entirely different formulation and, for me, does not work at all while this regular strength is a lifesaver.

Gaviscon was the first thing I used that helped control my reflux after PPI's had failed to help me. However, i became worried when i read about how bad it is to ingest Aluminum. The Gaviscon in Canada and the UK is made without Aluminum. If you need to take this drug, try to find a non-US source of it.After I started using  Iberogast , i weaned myself off of Gaviscon successfully.
