Bought this unit as it wasn't the cheapest, had decent ratings and looked like a good design. The Type C or USB A was a bit confusing but it worked as advertised for some disc's. Buy during playback of blueray disc's the movie freezes during playback. DVD plays fine but seems to be an issue with Blueray. Also, as noted in other reviews there is no software included to play disc's and that was a surprise. Back to the drawing board.

So out of the box it will can work but limited. You must own software to play bluerays ($80 investment). Must replace the cables. I replaced them with micro usb- usb for charging, an absolute must it is super power hungry and needs its own power brick this will reduce the artifacting when playing bluerays. I also replaced the split cabe to usb c for data. Unfortunately this port isnt fast enough to play bluerays flawlessly. With my set up i still get artifacting during cut scenes and action scenes. I will work on a usb c hub but only if using a usb c cable data from the player

There is no problem to read CD/DVD from the drive. I haven't try writing to a CD/DVD yet, but it should work. The quality is great. I like the slim design. and the external SD card reader is a plus.

This was an awesome buy. It tried to require me to download a few different software just to watch the Blue-rays but I was able to get around that. It has been a great product to have especially when I have a laptop with no disk drive. Edit: it has been a bit since having it. So far it was working fine. My husband would play his DVDs and everything was fine. Then all of a sudden it stopped working mid show. He tried stopping the DVD and then restarting it. Unplugging it and replugging it in. Nothing worked. The laptop just stopped recognizing it and then the player itself stopped recognizing dvds were in it. We are going to let it rest and try again a different day and see if it needed to rest or not.

I needed this external drive for my SIM card, and this is perfect since it also has the disc drive and micro SD card slot, very convenient! Works for regular windows and Apple laptop, definitely useful for my work.The size is bit large for me to carry and place it on the desk but the function works great.
