My tv's vesa bolt pattern is 406mm x 406mm; will this fit ok? the description says it'll fit up to "600x400" so am not too clear ...

The way TVs mount on this stand, the width should not be a problem. I just measured the vertical brackets on my stand and the maximum distance is right at 16 inches or 406.4 mm. It should fit, but it is so close that the diameter of the bolts you need for mounting could cause it to not fit. If it were me, I would probably pass on the model and look for something which a little more leeway in mounting tolerances.

Could I keep this on my covered back porch ?

I would have to have a way to secure it. A strong breeze would knock it down if your porch is screened. I built a better base higher so I can place it against the wall with a cabinet.
