Fun little radio with one major flaw
I just received this fun little guy yesterday and have spent quite a bit of time figuring it out. Compared to its bigger brother (LC 90) it, of course, has far fewer features. However, I seem to be enjoying it more. I'm an Internet guy and that is what this is. Buyer, expect to spend some time tweeking the radio and don't set your expectations too high - consider the price point. Now the major flaw: the headphone input jack doesn't work. You need a "C to headphone" adapter ( it uses the charging input) to play. I've tried 3 different adapters with no luck. The screen shows that the headphone is connected but no sound. It is probably a software issue. If other reviewers don't have the problem I'll return it for a replacement. By the way, the sound is quite good for a small device and the TF player works well.

So So Disappointed with This Radio - It is Crippled
Looks like this A8W is being discontinued. That is the good news. There is no reason a radio like this Choyong A8W should be so limited. No 3.5mm headphone jack, no line out jack, no Bluetooth link to headphone or speaker. NO reason for these limitations. This is a crippled little limited internet radio. With basic listening options would be OK. But it is not OK. Contacting technical support will not provide answers. Awful. A company like Choyong should be avoided if this is what they give people for their investment in time and money. This radio is a waste of both. Very frustrating. I am listening to another interneet radio as I write this that WORKS. It is very impressive (LeMega IR1). It is needless to say, not a Choyong .It just does not work well and even with firmware update multiple problems remain unfixed. It does not work with any USC-C to audio adapter I bought on Amazon. I bought several. Another waste of time and money, but I did so want to keep this radio. No reason for just bad engineering. No reason today. It is near useless as an FM radio. Just get that function out of expectations right away. It only "auto scans" the FM radio band and misses or mistunes the station. There is no way to manually enter or tune down a step to get the station. It is so frustrating. Amazingly stupid limit to function. Useless. There is no headphone function even thought this is promised through USB-C. An online search reveals many complaints and no resolutions. I have multiple pairs of headphones. None work and this radio comes with nothing. A USB charging cable only. And a manual that is nigh on useless. Awful uninformative manual considering the complexity of the radio. Website is nearly useless and uninformative too. This is just awful. This is bad for a company that is selling expensive radios. I will not trust such a poorly operated company or organization to give any value or support or functionality., I hope these guys stop selling radios. We do not need the disappointment and frustration and wasting of our time an money. Get it Right or Get OUT. I was going to give it 2 stars but it is not good enough for that even. Zero stars.

Wanted to Like It, But Returned It.
I bought this product for my self to take around the house with me. I do enjoy OTR stations very much and internet radios are great for that, but this unit has some major flaws. 1. It only connects on 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz WiFi. 2. Most stations I tuned to took 30 to 60 seconds to buffer before playing the content. Only the BBC channels loaded right away. I've not experienced this issue on any of my other internet radios. 3. Another reviewers point about not having a replaceable battery is spot on. The battery dies you cannot replace it. 4. You can only search by voice! Why? The microphone is terrible and never understands a word I say even if I spell it out. Super frustrating! 5. While the radio breaks out stations by geographical categories it doesn't allow you to choose genres or categories of content. Hugely disappointing. When it works and you do get a station tuned in the sound is decent for a small 5 W speaker. I mostly listen to talk radio shows and OTR, so not music. - All in all I couldn't justify spending $120 on something that worked in a sub par manner, that was slow and clunky. It's almost like they built an internet radio from leftover circuitry from the 70's. All that said I did like the form factor and color. I would have kept it, but for the major flaws noted above.

Radio Performance
I recently purchased this radio because I thought it would be a good alternative to the conventional short wave receivers, which don't seem to work to well anymore. It may take a while to learn to program it, as the written instructions aren't too clear. However, I was able to find some demonstration videos on You Tube, which made them more clear, and easier to follow. One of the advantages to this internet radio is that you don't have the fading of the signals, like with the conventional short wave receivers. Overall, I'd say it's a good value for the price!
