Substantial tie down for kayaking
I teach whitewater rafting and what I tell them is “if you come out of your boat, NEVER let go of your paddle”. With this leash, connected to my boat, holding onto my paddle means control of my boat, which in a fast moving river is critical. It’s high vis, sturdy, and reliable. Recommended

Probably don't need it.
I gave this product 4 stars because I'll probably never use it. Not the products fault. I became a new kayak owner and thought I would lose my paddle right away. I bought this leash and once I started to kayak, realized I probably will never use it. If you are doing rough water kayaking, then it might be a good safety item to have. For most lakes and calm rivers, you may not need it.

Works Well. Tip: Use a Carabiner Clip for Quick On/Off.
I got this for my husband to use in our kayak. It works quite well. The tether does just that, it holds/tethers the oar paddle to him. This way if he drops the oar or it gets knocked out of his hand, it won't get swept away by the water because it's tethered/connected to him. There is a clip on 1 end & a velcro strap on the opposite end. The tether cord is a bungy/springy cord w/a sleeve. The clip gets clipped to your life vest and the velcro end wraps around the center of the oar.The only thing we noticed is the small clip isn't that great. It holds well, but it's small and a bit irritating to get on/off. We remedied this issue by using a carabiner clip. That way we can just keep the carabiner clip on the life vest and pop the tether cord clip into that.
