Super Strong Chin-up Bar from New York Barbells
Pull-ups are a terrific exercise for the shoulders, the lats, the abs, and the back. I do not trust doorjam pull-up bars, so I wanted a more traditional bar to mount in the garage. Rather than a wall-mount bar, I prefer a ceiling mount (no kicking the wall). I found just what I was looking for at New York Barbells. This pull-up bar is very strong and stable. It is built to last, the welds are superb - nothing cheap about this piece of equipment. It mounts on a 2x4 or 2x6 o r 2x8 ceiling rafter with 4 vertical lag screws and two horizontal lag bolts/screws. It takes two people to secure the mount on the ceiling. It mounts best directly against the rafters. If you have a finished ceiling (as I do), it is best to punch two holes in the sheetrock to get a flush mount against wood (no intervening sheet rock). Once mounted, it is rock solid. It has three different modes to do pull-ups, the traditional way, wide-angled lat pull-up, and peg/handles that come out perpendicular for pull-ups with turned wrists. All three work slightly different muscle groups. With a chair to place one leg on, assisted pull-ups are easy to do.I searched the internet for a bar like this one, and I am 100% satisfied with the product, the installation, and the final result.konedog

Extremely poor quality control. How hard is it to weld the mounts on straight?
The first one I ordered had the left mount twisted, so when I tried to mount it, it wasn't flush with the rafter (by a lot!)You could tell that it was just welded on incorrectly. They never squared it up before welding it on.I'm 6'+ 210lbs, so I didn't feel safe putting my full weight on . I contacted the seller and they accepted an exchange. After they got it, they sent me another, this time both mounts were twisted! There was no damage to the box it came in and you could tell the product was just manufactured that way.Extremely poor quality control. How hard is it to weld the mounts on straight?Definitely not buying this one again. I'm going to have to go to a local shop and inspect one before I buy.

Great, great product.
I'm not at all a fan of the door frame pull up bars. I'm a big guy 6'3 225 and never felt comfortable doing my pull ups in a standard door frame. They're convenient but lacked the feel (sturdiness) I was looking for so I went to Amazon. I found this joist mounted pull up bar and am more than pleased. The install was VERY easy with a drill and a little elbow grease and it's not going anywhere lol. I guess the disadvantage is you have a semi permanent pull up bar hanging from your ceiling. In my case it's in the basement but with the added support and room it's night and day for me. Construction is great, install was easy and once again it's very sturdy. Very pleased with this purchase and will likely use New York Barbell for additional equipment in the future.

This product is perfect for an open ceiling garage
This product is perfect for an open ceiling garage. The bar is sturdy and very easy to install. I have hung upside down with my gravity boots with this pull-up bar and have full faith in it. I love the distance between the vertical posts. I would buy this bar again.

Great value for price!
Perfectly satisfied with this product! No complaints. I'm 210 lbs and can do pull up fine without the hint of bending or creaking. Installs easy with a drill and right bits. If you are even slightly handy you can install no problem.

I am very satisfied with this purchase
The chin-up bar is extremely well built. I am 230 pounds, and there is no movement at all when I do chin-ups. Installation was also simple. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Bolt snapped during installation, Seller not helpful
I received the bar and while installing a bolt snapped a little too easily. After that I went out to purchase steel bolts for installation prior to use, and so far so good. Seller was not helpful.
