VMware vSphere PowerCLI Reference: Automating vSphere Administration 1st Edition

This is a great book. It's just what I've been waiting for to help streamline my vSphere automation skills and habits.There is a small bug with the display of the example code snippets (the HTML code for ' seems to be in every place that the character itself should be), but they should be able to get that fixed soon. In the meantime, I can manage doing the manual replacements myself.Nevertheless, it's the only thing that keeps me from rewarding 5 stars for what is otherwise a terrific edition to my vSphere reference arsenal.Edit: After seeing the Author's responses to concerns expressed in other reviews here, I'd like to take the opportunity to upgrade my review to 5 stars. Great job guys. That's the kind of stuff I like to see.

This is a really good reference book. It has tons of stuff that i have already been able to us in my job. I started to read it straight through but haven't been able to stay with it... but lets face it, it is a GREAT Reference book not a beginners book.Part V where it discusses the different editors, the SDK, and how to build GUI is very useful.I am very VMware View centric and it does not touch on that add on to CLI but this isn't a VMware View PowerCLI book, it is a VMWare vShpere PowerCLI book.

This is a great resource for any vSphere admin. It covers everything from simple reporting and provisioning to automating complex workflows like site recovery.Although the code samples in the Kindle version have "Prime" scattered randomly throughout as others have stated, all of the code is available online through the publisher, as explained in the forward. The online code samples do not have this issue, and are easier to work with than grabbing code out of the Kindle copy anyway. This book is WELL worth the money, and a 5-star rating even with these minor issues.

Even though I took a PowerCLI training course, this book is still a bible for me. The book covers the common use cases of vSphere 4.x admin with PowerCLI scripts. I read the whole book at a weekend, and I will try the scripts later. I'm working on a project of ESX/ESXi QA automation and I was looking for a PowerCLI book, this is the one after researching. I highly recommend this book for any one who wants to manage and to monitor VMware cluster using PowerCLI.

I purchased this book after attending VMworld and I love it! For automating your Vsphere environment this is your bible. I've only scratched the surface but this book has saved me hundreds of hours of testing. It's so much better to get my Powercli scripting right the first time.

Great book. The Scripts are excellent and very practical e.g reading Hardware.Presume next edition of Book will have Scripts for VCDirector included.

Simply put, this is the most complete reference I've seen for PowerCLI and at the highest quality! I would recommend this to anyone that needs to have both a basic and an advanced reference for this powerful technology.

Exactly what I expected.

Especially for virtualization enthusiasts like me. It contains many interesting examples for virtual infrastructure automatization. I like it very much!

Wenn man das Autorenteam kennt, allen voran Luc Dekens und Alan Renouf, war eigentlich schon klar, dass hier eine absolute Referenz zur PowerCLI und der Automatisierung von VMware vSphere entstehen wird.Dieses Buch bringt alles mit, was man zur Arbeit mit der PowerCLI benötigt und geht thematisch beliebig tief. Die Gliederung des Buches ist sehr gut gelungen und die Unmengen an Skriptbeispielen und Erklärungen geben Einsteigern wie auch Fortgeschrittenen die Werkzeuge zur täglichen Administration mit.Eine absolute Kaufempfehlung für jeden VMware vSphere Administrator oder Berater und solche die es werden wollen.
