5 stars -- subtle romance
I paid .99 cents for this book and I worried that this price would reflect in the quality, yet it turned out to be an incredible bargain. I would have gladly paid full price for it.As others have noted, this novella sticks fairly close to canon during the first portion of the plot, yet it would be a mistake to skim over parts you think you know because there are changes to every scene utilized. If the author had nothing to add to the way it was written in the original, she simply summarized the part in question and trusted that the reader was already familiar with the missing details. Point being, there's no useless filler; every section familiar to P&P was used for a reason and altered to adapt to the changes made by the author. And for such simple changes, much was different. Georgiana never tried to elope with Wickham because she fell sick over the summer. Elizabeth takes her northern tour with the Gardiners a year early and so sees Pemberley (long accepted to be a metaphor for Darcy himself) before meeting its owner, giving her a favorable impression of him from the outset and reducing the prejudice against him. Because of these events, only Darcy's bad behavior can be held against him, which is more surmountable than the mistaken impressions Elizabeth has of him in the original.Once the botched proposal is done, the story veers off into its own direction and all assumptions are void. I thought that the elopement at the end was cleverly done; a combination of both Wickham/Georgiana and Wickham/Lydia, yet not entirely like either. Also, instead of Darcy rushing off to save Elizabeth's sister from ruin, the opposite is true. I always appreciate it when an author really plays with the source material in a thoughtful way. This one will become one of my favorites, I'm sure. I hope to read more by this author.

Pride and Prejudice variation.
Beautifully written story by a clever wordsmith. The premises of PnP were altered by Elizabeth visiting Pemberley a year early and the Ramsgate debacle never happened because Georgiana fell ill. The consequence to the relationship between ODC were intriguing, particularly the shift in affection and resentment.I particularly liked the clever infusion of phrases and twists from canon in new contexts.I loved the warmth, depth and thoughtfulness that went into this work. I absolutely loved it!Heartily recommend this book!

Charming
The plot twist explained in the book synopsis changes everything. Elizabeth has seen Pemberly, including a portrait of Mr. Darcy, and is predisposed to esteem him even before they meet at the assembly. Therefore, Wickham is not successful in his attempts to slander Darcy's name. For a change, it is Elizabeth who first becomes bewitched by Darcy, rather than the reverse. Darcy likes her, and they begin a friendship, but their insecurities and mixed signals result in misunderstandings that prevent a smooth resolution. As in the original P&P Darcy leaves Netherfield after the ball, and doesn't see Elizabeth again until her visit to Hunsford. Unlike the original, Elizabeth is a bit broken hearted by his leaving. The book is written in a serious tone, but there is enough humor in it to be entertaining. I like this version of Elizabeth and Darcy. They aren't so terribly critical and opinionated, but a bit softer and more open to influence. There are the usual annoying villains, namely Wickham, Caroline, Lady Catherine, but they aren't ever the focus. The major obstacle that ODC encounters is misunderstanding. It takes them a good long while to clarify their feelings for each other, but it's a nice, romantic ride getting there.I deducted a star for the amount of text taken directly from the original P&P. At first I was afraid it was just going to be a rehash of the original, and there is a significant amount of wording lifted right from those pages. However, it is enough of a remix to atone for it. Many quotes are spoken by a different character, or in a different situation with a new meaning. It's well written and well edited, and I recommend it highly.

Nicely crafted P&P variant
This story varies the P&P timeline a bit and the resulting story is well crafted. Wickham's villainy is focused on his original target, as Ramsgate has never happened. Elizabeth sees through him very quickly, but again neither she nor Darcy warn anybody. Their feelings of guilt and regret remain in full force to once again interrupt their relationship when Wickham finally strikes.**SPOILER** Darcy holds on to his negative views on Elizabeth longer than in P&P, but eventually his reluctant proposal is soundly rejected. Elizabeth focuses on his ill-treatment of Jane, which Darcy promptly corrects. Just as things begin to go well between E and D, Wickham strikes. Here it is Elizabeth who rushes to save Georgiana, not Darcy trying to save Lydia. She succeeds, and at Jane and Bingley's wedding, the two are finally reconciled. In this version, Lydia marries Lt. Denny, a more suitable match with no scandal attached.

An interesting change to the storyline
I did enjoy the book, it is a relatively quick read 3-4 hours so an afternoon with a cup of tea or evening with a g & t if you prefer. I'm not sure Darcys change of heart is 100% believable to me but our dear couple are continually misunderstanding each other. I think I will have to read it again in case I missed anything. Well written in there are no missing words or misspellings. Overall a good read and it's free on kindle unlimited.

Elizabeth and Darcy - Ardently Yours
I loved this story. It has a slightly different take than the usual P & P offerings but despite this, the dialogue kept me focused and entertained all the way through. It is also well written and punctuated which is an important detail in forming my opinion. It’s a good read and I do recommend it.
