Well Made, Great Looking, Fantastic Price
For at least 20 – 25 years, I’ve been wearing boat shoes for my everyday, casual wear shoe. I like the way they look and feel. I also appreciate the way these shoes hold up. I can get quite a few years out of a pair of boat shoes before my wife makes me get a new pair. Then the old pair gets relegated to the garage for yard work.I first started wearing Sperry and have tried most brands. This time I chose the Timberland Classic Boat Shoe. I liked the way it looks. I like the fit, comfortable but not too snug. It has a nice built up arch support. The shoe is nice leather uppers and the standard rubber sole for traction on wet surfaces. I no longer am active in sailing, but this shoe is a great deck shoe.It is well made. And has the leather shoe lace. These are much more competitively priced that most other brands. I cannot tell the difference in the quality of this shoe compared to the more expensive brands. It is easy to tell the difference in the price.Looks Great, Wears Well, Fantastic Pricing.

Class It Up for a Great Price
Let me start off by saying that I've bought two pairs of these shoes, one for me about a year ago, and one for my dad for Christmas this year, and unfortunately had to send his back due to the sizing being a bit off (my fault). I've heard a lot of grief about Timberland shoes in the past few years, that the quality is bad and that the shoe falls apart. Honestly, this depends on the buyer, and what pair you're given; but I can honestly say that I've had my pair for over a year now, and they've held up fantastic. The leather has darkened nicely, shines up pretty well too. The sole has a nice non-slip texture, and at first glance, I was skeptical, but after wearing them in the rain, I can say that it does work. The only problem I've had with the shoes is that there isn't really an insole (which doesn't bother me), and that the very small lifts that we in mine had come loose: probably the glue that held them there wore off. I just put some glue I had laying around on them to hold them in place and that solved the problem.

How do they compare to Sperrys and Sebagos....
I'm a shoe nut and more specifically, boat shoes. No kidding, I currently have at least 7 pairs. I tend to like the traditional, leather lined shoes since they're much better when going sock-less. However, most companies are getting away from that because it's more expensive to make - surprise, surprise. That being said, I'm comparing these to Sperry AO's and Sebago Portsides - pretty much the standards in traditional boat shoes. These are stiffer more like the Sebagos and have less cushioning in the heel, like Sebagos. Sperry AO's have no break in period, these will take a day or tow of wear. However, like Sebago's, these feel like they will last longer than the Sperry's - the leather is thicker and the sole's aren't as soft. These are a true moc design and don't have the seam on the inside like cheaper shoes (Sperry Leewards, etc...). The color I got is on the redish side of brown and I knew that and am fine with it. They look really good. Unlike Sperry AO's or Sebago Portside's, these soles are glued and don't have the stitching on the bottoms. This is nice because that stitching will let water in eventually - not an issue with these. Overall, I am happy and these should definitely be considered in the same conversation as AO's and Portsides. They're clearly well made and look good. It seems outside of the US, the Dom Republic tends to make the best boat shoes.

Satisfied
My husband ordered these as he has been looking for this particular style and brand for quite some time. They have been out of stock in stores and online in other places. We did a search on Amazon and this one came up for up for quite a bit less money than the ones that were out of stock anyways. We took a chance and we were very satisfied with the purchase that we made. They were in great condition and my husband said a wee bit tight in the toe but it'll stretch . Overall very satisfied with this purchase.

Slip on protection against sandburs/grassburs and fire ants
Bought these the other day, put them in a bucket of water for a few hours and then wore them wet to break them in both yesterday and today. They are just about broken in and are quite comfortable now, if a bit damp still. I bought Timberland because of past good experience with their boat shoes and because they have a flat sole. We have loads of grassburs and fire ants where I live (central Texas) and it's danged hot in the summer. I spend lots of time outside. Sandals are cool but at the expense of getting stabbed by the grassburs and stung by fire ants. Boots or sneakers with heavy socks work against both of them but at the expense of really overheating during the day and getting the grassburs stuck in the sole treads and socks if wearing sneakers. Slip on rubber agricultural boots are danged hot and have deep treads which collect the grassburs.Going into the house after being outside runs the risk of depositing a grassbur into the carpet. That is a definite barefoot ouch. Tying and untying shoes as many times as I go in an out is a non-starter. Slip on is the only option for me and since the agricultural boots are too hot, I had to find another solution. These boat shoes solve the majority of the problem. They slip on an off so I can remove them upon entering the house. The flat soles enable me to scrape off any grassburs quickly before going into the house, and being fully enclosed leather gives me a second or two to stomp the fire ants off the shoes when they are doing their best to sting me. Finally they don't contribute to the overheating in the hot weather.

... these years ago and wore them out after a good many years but switched to other brands after that
I bought a pair of these years ago and wore them out after a good many years but switched to other brands after that. The main reason I am trying them again is because my feet have changed and these were available in wide sizes. They fit fine but I do not remember my first pair or any other brand coming with a high gloss finish, these have a better shine on them than my dress shoes. Not what I was looking for in a kick around boat shoe.

Wonderful! Order half size up.
My husband is in love with these. Second pair, the other ones were left somewhere in Athens after years of walking in them. Quality leather, beautifully sewn, great vibrant color, lots of stars for Timberland shoes made in Dominican Rep. He ordered the size he had in his previous pair (bought in Europe). either his feet changed or the new ones fit smaller. No problem, we sent them back the following day and ordered a different size. They also come earlier than expected, even if from the States. My husband says that he never had bad shoes from this company. Thank you Timberland for good shoes!
