Franchi Courgette Rugosa Friulana

I find this company supplies excellent quality seed and they are more generous with the quantity than other brands.This particular vegetable (technically a fruit?) was very interesting. Vigorous, so it needs space (vertical preferably) and regular watering, otherwise it will get mildew. It cropped VERY heavily in 2017 and from just 4 plants I ended up giving many fruits away, much to the bemusement of those who had never seen one before!The flavour was very mild and we used them more as a bulky addition to a meal, rather than a centre piece. It roasted up okay in chunks and baby ones were fine sliced into in a stir fry. You can also very thinly slice them to make fresh pickles and 'pasta' ribbons.As they grow bigger, the skins get tougher, so need peeling, but it's fun to see the size they end up - some of them got to over 30cm long! I only used an occasional liquid seaweed feed.I bet they would be a hit with kids and a great way to introduce them to the benefits of gardening :) although do watch out for the hairy stems when harvesting!I also recommend Franchi's rocket seed.

These seeds were dispatched promptly in good packaging.A packet of these seeds was given to me as a present nine years ago. There are so many seeds in the packet that I have been able to use them each year and they have consistanty provided me with a good crop of lovely textured courgettes. I prefer them to the green ones and are best enjoyed when they are young and small. Allow them grow to full size and they will store for months. I used up the last of the seeds last summer and am hoping these new ones will last me another nine years!
