Works Okay but is a Lightweight
It seems to be a nice little desk lamp which is what I wanted. However, the base is very light and with the lamp arm extended just as pictured in the ad, it is somewhat unsteady and tends to tip over. I may try to use a little Velcro on the base to hold it upright.

Great desk lamp for study
After comparing several table lamps in Amazon.com, I finally chose Ott-Lite. I really like the light it gives off. It makes everything clear but not too sharp. Frankly speaking, the base is not so weighted heavily and it might be a little low for someone else. But it never tips over and it is just the right size for my desk. And I like the feature that it can be adjusted to different angles horizontally and vertically. In all, a great desk lamp for study.

Great lighting for detail work - but needs heavier base
.I've heard about OttLite lamps and how great they are, but I never took it too seriously - after all, what could be so different between my present desk lamp and this newfangled light?Fortunately, I had a chance to see an OttLite in a friend's office. The light it produces is remarkable.I ordered one for myself and I'm happy I did. It makes small details easily visible, even for my grandfather's aging eyes.4 stars instead of 5 because there's not enough weight in the lamp's base, making it unstable. After the lamp fell off the desk a couple of times, I tried a fix that worked -- removed the bottom cover (requires a TINY screwdriver) and discarded the almost ineffective ballast included by the manufacturer, and replaced it with one pound of small lead fishing line sinkers. Then replaced the bottom plate. The fix worked! The base is more stable now. (The 1-lb bag of sinkers cost $4.00 at a local bait shop, but worth it.)Would I recommend the OttLite to a friend? Sure! I love it.

Disappointing
And when I say disappointing I'm being generous. I read a lot. I got this light to use for reading and have it on the same table as my computer keyboard. The worst part is that it's top heavy. The arm with the light causes the base to tip over. To make things worse the lamp uses the type of bulb that may easily start fires so I'm always nervous that I'll forget to turn it off, it will tip over and start a fire. Also, the bulbs are expensive so if the lamp tips and falls and the bulb breaks I'll have to pay another $13 to replace it. I find myself continually readjusting the light because of its instability and the longer I use it the lamp arm begins to sink lower and lower over my book. The lamp falls onto my keyboard so I'm forever sitting back upright and escaping out of or repairing whatever damage it's done online. The good news is the lighting is good and adequate. I know I should box this back up and head back to the post office with it but I'm unwilling to stand in line for an hour or so. This is one of the most horrible products I've ever bought on Amazon. In all my years shopping here I think this is my first one star review. Don't buy this lamp.

Unstable Base
I purchased this and the OttLite task lamp with swivel base at the same time. I returned this light as the base in not sturdy and twice it one afternoon it tipped over on me when I gently bumped it. The light itself is great and I am thoroughly pleased with the task lamp and am ordering another one. I would suggest that you compare the two before making a decision.

Good Price But Top Heavy
I love the black, and love the shape and size. Perfect for the piano. A tube LED makes music very easy to read. However, it is top heavy, no matter which way I tried to adjust the shape. The neck is not very flexible and the best way to get light from the lamp onto the music was to turn it so it hangs over the front of the piano, which looks weird (photo included). Another reviewer on this lamp mentioned getting some lead fishing weights, opening the stand and put the weights inside. I tried that but the weights kept falling out and I couldn't figure out how to keep them in, not put any force against electrical wires, and still get it closed again. So I just stacked them in their little bag on top of the base. It works ok, but if we have another earthquake like we did recently, those weights may go rolling, and the lamp will topple over scraping the beautiful highgloss finish of my brand new piano.

Just bought my 3rd Ott-Lite wing-Shade Table Lamp
I've had two of these table lamps for years. I recently broke one and did not hesitate to order another one. I was mildly surprised to see reviews that the lamp easily tips over. The lamp does have a round, flat base that's not very heavy. However, the only way I can get the lamp base to lift up is when I bend the arm down low. (I don't ever need it that low and just tried it after reading the reviews.) I've never had trouble with them tipping and have never had to replace the bulbs. I have one on my home-office desk and usually keep the arm and shade turned towards my computer sceen and keyboard. Sometimes I adjust the shade towards where I'm either working on a painting project or doing paperwork at the desk, or just painting my nails. Sometimes I adjust it to the other side of the room where I might be doing some sewing or ironing and want a little more light. It gives off a lot of light, is easily adjustable, and is dependable.

Good lamp for studying
Bought this lamp for my wife. She likes it.The light is good for studying, white, bright, much better than a yellow incandescent bulb. The height is good. Build quality is OK, all plastic, not the luxury type. Style is also OK, easy to use/adjust.As some reviewers said, the base is not very heavy, sometimes the head tips over forward if you bump it from the back. Not a big problem.
