Heart Touching story
Introduction : Karnataka born Indian writer famous for her novels like House of Cards, Mahasweta, Dollar Bahu, children classic, Collection of short stories Sudha Murty is a prolific personality. It is astonishing that how being the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation she probes such deep in human heart.Story Line: the story opens with a easy go on flow, telling a story of two genius girl and boy who come from two different families which are antagonistic to each other fiercely. But they fall in love. Their love deepens with the fragrance of tiny little ' bakul' flower. Shrimati the symbol of purity, love, sacrifice and calmness get absorbed with the self effacing flower 'Bakula' that she always wears in her hair and Shrikant associates her with it in every aspect. He asks her to write letter to him when he moves to Bombay for his higher studies. Shrimati encloses a tiny Bakul in every letter. They got married, inspite of every adversity from their house.Shrimati the brighest student sacrifices her career, her thirst for knowledge, her yeraing for History of India, for Lord Ashoka,Goutam Buddha Vikramaditya as at a point of her life she feels 'Sir,I do love history but l love Shrikant as well', perhaps more. She sacrifices her sensibility, her aspiration, her sensitivity helping Shrikant to climb the ladder of corporate world, higher to highest. But everything has a limit and Shrimati crosses the limit of sacrifice on her part. She feels lonely, detached with no child,no lover and perhaps no husband who cares a fig for her. She does not aspire for materialism, she asks for love, for simplicity, profound knowledge and spirituality. But she is taken for granted. Her calm docile self is used by everyone, her husband, her in laws. They never love her only taunt her, make her suffer. The most evolving and absorbing portion was Shrimati's realization and gradual development. Her sufferings, agony, humiluation one-day dissolve all her dilemma, her oscillation. Her tremendous will power leads her to her destination - her journey in search of truth 'The only option left was to become astudent once again'.After 10 years of marriage she realized what she wants. She flies to U.S.A for her PhD that she refused earlier when Prof. Collins offered her a scholarship in Yale University. She takes the offer after 10 years."Shri, if I had not been sensitive and bright I wouldn’t have had to suffer such loneliness. I could have enjoyed your wealth. When I was, thinking about my life so far what my goal has been I have realized what I want."Technical sides :The story telling style, easy flow of language touch readers heart easily. The ending is really heart touching where Shrikant lose his Shrimati-'Shrimati who had walked with him side by side in the same Shravan rain for ten years had now left him all alone'. There is no braggadocio of Language, no bubble of hobnob society. The symbolic 'Bakul flower' keeps spreading its mild fragrance all over the novel .It must be said that sophisticated simplicity is the logo of this novel. My opinionI thank and express my regard to the writer for such precious gift that brings unfathomable pleasure to read. It soothes the heart with pure refreshment of thought and lyrical provocation. I wish whoever will pick the copy must be enlightened with real pleasure and contemplation.

Short, simple, realistic
I often wonder how on our journey towards success we tend to forget the sacrifices of our loved ones. We get so busy chasing power and money that we fail to acknowledge the selfless love without which our dreams would have been just that; dreams. In a patriarchal society as ours, it is not very unusual for women to live for and through the dreams of her partner. There is this unspoken expectation that a woman would be ready and more so happily to abide by anything and everything she’s told. I am not even getting started about when she tries to stand out.For example, women are expected to follow certain rules which apply to them only because of their gender. They are expected to learn how to cook, wash, pray, breed, raise and manage all that efficiently while handling their professional life. After a point, the success of her partner and raising a good family becomes the new goal of her life while her own dreams and aspirations take a backseat. The author, through the story of Shrimati and Shrikant takes you through a journey which starts with love for each other and ends with love for what they believe in. It is a story of two very bright kids from a small town in Hubli, chasing after their ambitions, falling in love and even settling down but never halting. Eventually, the dreams of Shrimati find solace in the accomplishments of her husband, whereas for him his progress remains of utmost importance. She gives up on her dreams without hesitation just to see Shrikant succeed, while all this time he keeps neglecting the sacrifices and desires of Shrimati and the affection lost in the process only to realize when it was too late. But is power, money and success worth it when you have no one to share them with?Ask yourself, what do you think is more important, a success without love or a love with success?

Decent story!!!
Readers who are addicted to stories related to the new generation may find this book a bit boring or slow-paced, but if you love classic novels or have a desire to read them, then you must read this. This is a very well-written story that depicts the condition of women in the old days. While our society is changing and our country is encouraging gender equality, there are still some places where women are treated as they did in the old days.If you are looking for books with strong female protagonists, this is the book for you.Full review on my blog.

Worth reading...
One should value the sacrifices done by their loved ones, as in this book Shrimati did all the possible things by her end but Shrikant failed to recognise all those sacrifices as he was ambitious and so focused on his career building.

Realization of commitment in a marriage
It is not so great to marry a person you love in these days. It is just the beginning of a whole new life. But in their story, the commitment after marriage was not fulfilled. And there is a second beginning in their lives. It is a moral story for present generation people on basis of commitment in a marriage.

An average book
This story has come many times as movie! I did not find extraordinary in the theme. Leaving house cannot be the only solution! Why people cannot show that men (Indian, especially) do not have guts to accept intelligence, freedom of his wife? the story would have more touched if it was shown that Shrikant has bent down to Shrimati's aspiration and has created room for her. End could have been much better with this view!!!

Very juvenile
While the story is different the author has written it in a very child like manner. I would not waste my money.
