OEM part so perfect fit for 2012 BMW X5 35d! My old one was really dirty so I’m happy i got this. The installation wasn’t to hard. I watch a video on YouTube, so I had an idea what I was getting into. Took me maybe like 15- 20 min to do this taking it slow. Everything clip and screwed back in place with no issue. Recommend changing this out because it gets dirty!

So I had been trying to find the cabin filter for my 2014 (F15) X5 and all the auto parts sites refer to the carbon filter for the intake air you find under the hood on the passenger side. As I kept researching, I found on a BMW forum that there was another filter as well. This one is your standard cabin filter that you find in most cars today. You can easily find info on it for the (E70) X5 and as with most things in the E70 it is a pain to change (just like the carbon filter under the hood). The BMW engineers made the F15 much easier to work on. Instead of needing torx bits to unscrew the entire piece un der the glove box then weed through a mass of wires and ductwork, there are three clips holding the panel under the glove box in place. Turn each counter clockwise and the panel will release. There is a wiring connection to the small light that easily pulls out, then you will find the filter housing easily accessible. Take a flat head screwdriver and pop the cover off and simply swap the filter ensuring the flow arrows are pointing the same direction. The filter I had pulled out of mine was fairly black and did not smell very good. Very glad I found this replacement. BMW calls it a recirculation filter, which is why it is so hard to find when you call it a cabin air filter.

This filter is the one that no one knows about... I bought a used BMW X5 E70 2008 and it had some kind of foul dirty moldy water smell coming through the vents especially when I had the AC programmed to vents off. I changed all filters and still had the smell, I bought a vent cleaning spray which helped for a while and then the smell came back, finally after doing so much on line research I found a forum speaking about this filter that is right next to the fuse box in the front passenger side. That filter you could tell was never changed, it was beyond dirty and had debris and old dried leafs stuck to it. It was so worn out that it just started crumbling the second I touched it, mind you that is what you and your family breathe in. I could tell it was never changed because the new BMW oem filter is a paper one and this one was like a cone type filter. The difference was night and day and it was a simple install that anyone can do for themselves.I also suggest while you're there to check all the fuses as well... Good luck

It's not an easy 2 minute job on a BMW X5 dismantling the underside of the passenger side dashboard to change out the filter. But once you have access to the cabin filter, it was a cinch to swap them out. New BMW filter works flawlessly.
