Gigaware Alarm Panel System DSL Filter 279-002 RJ31X RJ38X resolved phone line problem (noise & static)
This filter did the trick. For whatever reasons the RJ31X RJ38X filters in my alarm box fail approximately every two to three years and I start getting considerable noise and static on my phone line. This occurred when I had an actual landline through AT&T and now through my Comcast VOIP (not actually VOIP as Comcast uses some proprietary variance of VOIP) since my home alarm system (ADT) ties into my phone line. Anyway, rather than contact my alarm company and pay for a service visit, I purchased three of these filters, immediately installed one of them and my phone line noise completely disappeared. The Gigaware Alarm Panel System DSL Filter 279-002 RJ31X RJ38X worked to resolve my problem. I cannot attest as to how long this filter will last but so far (about a month), so good.

It's A Radio Shack Part
It seems that Gigaware is a Radio Shack brand. Yes, this is a Radio Shack part, and it does not work all that well.I bought mine as a spare, as I have had DSL alarm filter failures in the past. I tested it by running speed tests with the Gigaware filter, an Excelsus filer, and a jumper plug that bypassed the alarm system. The Excelsus filter and the jumper plug consistently got the identical results. Using the Gigaware filter, I consistently got lower speeds. Typically, they were about 10% lower that the speeds obtained with either the jumper plug or the Excelsus filer. Not recommended.

Made no difference in my DSL speeds or Alarm function
As far am I'm concerned, didn't need this Alarm Filter as my Alarm call outs always worked (in test mode) and my DSL speeds (~15.7MBPS) remained the same if not ever so slightly slower.Don't think my alarm with my phone wires going into the box impacted my DSL functionality at all.

I guess it works
Installer said it was not necessary nowadays, but I figured it wouldn't hurt.
