No. This would ruin the rubber on the back. The surface can be cleaned with a wet cloth

Is this Persian or turkish "rugs"?

I am not sure what specific type of rug they are -- but I do know that they are beautiful coasters!! Which is the reason I bought them!! I have had them for several years, have had to "hand wash" them in dish water and air dry them in the dish rack -- they always come out beautifully!!
