Q: How do they hold up in the rain?

Because these are so well made and are 100% wool, you need to not use high heat to dry. They are a marvel! When they get wet, I put them in the dryer for a short stint on low heat and then, if till damp, I use the no heat setting until dry.

Q: Can you wash and dry these?

They are 100% wool, so I wash them in the washing machine in cool water and turn them inside out and dryon "no heat" in the dryer and then turn them right side out and air dry overnight.

Q: Are these for men too? Would that change sizing recommendations? Have a medical condition and need extremely warm mittens/gloves that are not bulky.

I think, these mittens are both, for men and women. I have bought them for my son who lives in a city and walks a lot, even in the winter. They are not bulky. I got size M, but for the larger man's hand, just choose size L. That would be my recommendation. Good luck.
