Talk about making yard work EASY:-)
Ok ok, i guess that's not totally 100% true,...........HOWEVER, this Southland wheeled string trimmer DOES make some yard chores a snap!!!! Let me explain........I purchased this to help with some of my leaf-blowing, weed/grass trimming chores on my property; I live on 16.5 acres and I can tell you, for all the areas I like to keep maintained and manicured, toting around a backpack leaf blower or carrying a conventional curved or straight shaft trimmer can be a chore in itself. Don't get me wrong, I own those previously mentioned items, but this southland wheeled trimmer has the ability to convert to three different tools and be cause of the wheels, I can now push almost effortlessly thru my yard tasks in a fraction of the time.I mainly purchased this item because my string trimmer was down for repairs, and I had only originally mainly wanted this product for the leaf-blower attachment. Well lemme tell ya - I got sooooo much more versatility in this handy little product.Let's first start with my driveway; I have 581ft of it to maintain, with 80% of it being covered/flanked by trees. That my friends translates to roughly 400 glorious feet of leaf covered driveway!!! lol Yep, with a different type of blower, it's a bit of a job, but with this wheeled companion, i just push it like a baby carriage and my leaf woes are no more:-) and yes, it indeed pushes as smooth and light as pushing a baby stroller.Next, it comes with attachments to give me the ability to edge trim, or mow. Thus far I have limited use of the edger/trimmer attachment mainly because I bought this right at the onset of winter, but for the little that needed to be cleaned/trimmed up; it worked flawlessly. I really like the fact that the head can both rotate and angle to give me easier access in obstacle areas while also allowing me to trim around raised mulch beds, fence posts, ditches and every other area i maintain on the property. The blower attachment is hands down awesome!!! I talk more about it in my leaf blower attachment review, but suffice it to say it made light easy work of my driveway and walking trails:-)Assembly was pretty easy to tackle, it took me all of 20 minutes to assemble and starting thus far has been even easier; three to four yanks and this little puppy starts right up. And weighing in at 43cc, it's got enough juice to work thru all the chores I've thrown at it so far. I will say though that the gas tank IMHO is a bit small; it's only 28 ounces, barely a quarter gallon of gas.The onboard string storage and integrated line cutter is a nice feature and the 12" wheels make pushing a breeze. I have a few slopes on the property plus walking trails and I have had no problem pushing this any and everywhere on my property. The paddles are easily accessed by either hand/thumbs and operating the throttle during operation is as simple as it gets. This product REALLY makes life easy on the ole homestead now:-)Provided it has the longevity I'm hoping for, this yard tool could very well be one of my best investments of the year.THANKS Southland:-)

Setting the record straight
Okay, let me set the record straight on some of the good and the bad of this machine.1. Height - it’s about like a push mower in size. I am 6’ 2” and have no problem reaching the handle without bending over.2. Easy start – Kind of but not that easy. I primed the bulb as directed (6 times) and needed to prime it a few more times. It takes about 4 or 5 pulls to get it started. Once started, you need to quickly reach up and press the throttle to keep running at first, then it idles just fine.3. Durability – Come on, really, it’s obviously not made for cutting a field of 5’ tall Johnson Grass but it does just fine on regular grass around the house. It’s a house-hold weed eater, not a mow-board (brush hog). So treat it as such and it should last for years.4. Pivot Option – The pivot part works fine but you will need to hold it in place for the pivot action. It doesn’t just swing into position on its own. But it does pivot and lock into place easily.5. Plastic Wheels – I’m not a big fan of these new “plastic” wheels on everything, but yet there they are. I’m a little old school and prefer metal wheels. I’ll replace the plastic ones with after-market metal ones in the near future. With all that said, overall it’s a great little machine and well worth the price.

Works good but not real durable
Purchased in April. Really liked it but the head broke already where the string goes in. Only way to fix it is to get a whole new head.

a very good "TRIMMER".
a very good "TRIMMER" ... this weed eater.... trimmer does a really nice job trimming the grass and small weeds around the house and flower beds... Its not so much for mowing fields or large areas of really big weeds and brush... but then... its not designed for heavy cutting like that... It's very easy to start and operate.. even my 8 year old grandson can use it around the house and does a very good job ... its not too heavy and its easily maneuvered and adjusted for what ever you need to trim

A great machine, with one fatal flaw making it unusable
A great machine , with one fatal flaw making it unusable. It’s waaaay too short , you have to bend down to use it . This is ridiculous as I am not even tall (5’9”). What a shame .

ill eat my loss and not buy another Southland product or recommend them to anyone
I got this on time and put it together I put 50to 1 trufuel in it and followed the starting instructions. It took about 10 times of trying the instructions before it finally started. i shut it off and it would not start again without a lot of pulling and pumping then it would hit and not run. I own several other string trimmers wheeled and not wheeled but this one will not run. I would send it back but it to much trouble to box it back up. ill eat my loss and not buy another Southland product or recommend them to anyone. bad Quality control..

Has it's place
Packaged well, all parts included. Assembly was ok, but seemed more difficult than need be. Brass bolt that attaches grass shield bound tightly before it tightened the parts together. Would not unscrew without damaging the plastic shield where the brass nut was embedded. Used vice grips and "never seize" on the threads to get the shield attached. Am located where purchase of "no alcohol gas" is readily available & use it in all 2 cycle engines. Started and ran well. Trimming here is a major task with 1 acre pond banks, many trees & items. It will fit in well between the big mowers and the heavy handheld string trimmers. Light weight, easy to push. Do not care for the thumb activated throttle, when trimming under low trees and bushes where I switch hands frequently.

It is ok if your are weed eating grass that ...
It is ok if your are weed eating grass that is 1/2 inch tall. Once you hit any kind of grass that has any bulk or any height it has a really hard time. The video it shows must be of one that is alot more powerful. I found that it is no different than having a hand held one. A weak one at that. In my opinion it is highly over priced. Go get a 60 Dollar hand held one and it will do the same thing.
