What are the dimensions of the 50 Liter backpack when it's unfolded?

Check the answers already posted for this item. One reviewer provided the measurements unfolded. I'm stilol trying to figure out how it folds into its own carrying case.

Would it be large enough to hold an iPad?

Yes. I carry my iPad easily in this bag, more than enough capacity! In addition, I also put a lot of things into my backpack, laptop, books, clothes, documents, wallet, etc. Big room!

How is the padding on the backside?

No backside padding to speak of. Padding dependent on just how much you put into the bag. My biggest problem with the bag is trying to get it folded and packed into the built-in carrying bag. Instructions and video for same were not helpful. Nice bag with plenty of pockets otherwise.
