Groo vs. Conan

Groo versus Conan an impossibility that had to happen. From the pencils of Sergio Aragones of Mad Magazine fame. Here we have the two unconquerable barbarians of comics fame. Well sort of famous. This book ranks up there with other great vs comics such as: Archie vs. Predator, RoboCop vs Terminator, Stormwatch vs. Aliens, and Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula (called Scarlet in Gaslight).The story is framed in an odd manner as it all exists in the drug addled head of Sergio Aragones after he is beaten up a drugged in the hospital. As such there is a strong Don Quixote aspect to the story. As parts of Groo’s saga mirror me check of what the artist is experiencing.As you might expect a tale such as this is surreal beyond the norm. The parts of Conan are drawn by Yeats in an entirely different style. It creates an Alice in Wonderland mixture of delusion and seriousness.The books is a fun ride, riddled with self effacing comments on the comic and industry as a whole. A homeless bum mentions that his company published Groo before going under. Aragones loses his portfolio and his partner states that it would take him a whole hour to redraw all the pages. Plus everyone confuses him with the Hispanic who created Spy Vs Spy.

Not the best story nor the worse. For that reason I give it 4 stars and also because I love the idea of having Groo vs Conan.

Funny, witty, stupid... All of the above? Read it wih an open mind because this is more Groo than Conan. Well, maybe a bit of MAD thrown in there. The book was expensive for the size (thanks Dark Horse...), but was an amusing read while it lasted.Stars and review for the book only. Amazon sent me the book with a significant bend in the cover.. So in the case of service subtract two stars.

This crossover does not work very much... Having Evanier mocking the audiences, nerds and cartoonists all the time can a get a bit tiring after the hundredth time...Art work however is very good.Anyway, as always, you will have a few laughs.

I'm not gonna say I regret this purchase but I certainly don't recommend it, either. I was a bit surprised at how much of it took place in the "real world" telling the story of Sergio and Mark. I would say this is probably more for Groo fans than Conan fans and unfortunately I am the opposite.

Groo versus Conan was terrible. Too much time was spent yakking about getting the series made, the fight scene between the two barbarians was pitiful. I love the creators and the characters but, this was not a good comic at all. All build up and no pay off... horrible comic. Read any of the early Groo stuff or any of the early Marvel comics Conan Sal Buscema stuff

Very funny read. So much going off as you read it too. Recommended.

Heavy big fan of both charecters

Conan il Barbaro è un personaggio creato nel 1932 da Robert E. Howard. Nel corso degli anni molti autori sia di romanzi che di fumetti hanno preso ispirazione dal Cimmero di Howard creando imitazioni o parodie di Conan.Una di queste ultime è Groo, personaggio creato negli anni '70 da Sergio Aragones come parodia grottesca del Barbaro più famoso.Questo volume raccoglie la miniserie che vede l'incontro fra i due personaggi.La chicca è che il personaggio di Groo è disegnato dal suo creatore, Sergio Aragones, nel suo classico stile cartoonesco, mentre il personaggio di Conan è realizzato da Thomas Yeates, illustratore iperealistico!

der Autor spielt ja selbst mit dem Thema Cross Over im Comic. Um es kurz zu machen: es bringt nix. Ein paar nette Ideen in der "drumrum" Geschichte - die Krankenhaus-thematik - ansonsten verzichtbar.Bitte wieder einen richtigen Groo!
