Work well

I've had om3 fiber optics in my home lab for several years now but I've never cleaned the fibers. Recently, I've had some performance issues so I figured it would be a good idea to go ahead and clean the fibers. I ordered this pen, it came in, and I was able to clean all the fibers within about 10 minutes. Works great! With 800 cleaning uses, I don't think I'll ever use the pens up but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good cheap pen for home use. The plastic casing is a little thin, so I don't think it would hold up to professional use.

I was able to use the LC pen and it appears to operate correctly. I was not able to really able to test the cleaning ability as the cables I tested them on were clean. My tested showed no significant changes, but I believe it would do the job.

Gets the job done cheaply

I tested using a scope to visually verify the end of my test LC and SC fiber was dirty. Then, I used the adapter included with both cleaners to clean the fiber. The results were mixed. I would say it would clear maybe 80-90% of the debris/oils. Using a cartridge type cleaner produces better results, but this is decent and acceptable.The extendable tip allows you to easily reach recessed fiber connector contact surfaces. The cleaner produces an audible click once when cleaning is complete.

These pens are essential in cleaning the optical cables and ports.Just a little dirt can interfere with the light being transmitted to where it goes then cause errors or just not be received at the other end.Used to clean manually and take a chance of scratching the surface then it was better with the dirt if you can believe it.This kit is easy and just a puch when there is a click it's clean.I like this kit because the cost is little lower than buying separately and on top of it the 2 common sizes are in the kit. 1.25mm and 2.5mmSince this makes my job alot easier then I am more happy to perform the job and only 1/10th the time cleaning.If your into optical as well. I added some fiber to my home lab and thought it would be good too have this. I have not "had" to use it yet but I have played with the unit and I think it will work if I ever have the need.
