Are these strong enough to hook a sail shade up to them ( other 2 corners are to house)?

1" poles do not seem strong enough to support a shade when a strong gust of wind hits if secured against the fence, and if using the spikes, I believe they would pull out of the ground.

Would something like this attract lightning?

I suppose anything metal technically could but I have never had it happen. I have metal bird poles taller then these and have never experienced lightening hitting them either.

the answer to that is it is 2 finished poles. it has a few sections that screw together to make the poles themselves.
