Does the height include the handle?

The handle sits flat on top of the fan so I don’t think it is included in the height.

Would this work with an open fire

No, unfortunately not. All of these Stove-top fans use a thermocouple driven motor to power the fan. It relies on there being a large heat source directly contacting the baseplate. This it what the "Stovetop" supplies. With an open fire there is no "Hotplate" to place the fan upon.

No, it is not magnetic. It is very stable.
