Can it smelt platinum?

It is my understanding from a former pawnshop owner, that the 220vAC unit will achieve platinum melt temps. He informed me when I was interviewing him about his experience with this unit, that the 110vAC will not achieve much more than the temp to melt Ag and Au, plus several non-noble metals.

What is the coil dimensions? i.d., tube diameter, length and number of turns?

I do not know the specifics of this unit's original copper ID and OD. However, the owner of the 220vAC identical model of this unit informed me that it is standard waterline (copper) which would be 1/4 copper tubing, with flare ends and normal brass screw down fittings onto the male ports on the unit itself. I asked him about the number of coils. He told me I could make it any number of winds I wanted and increase the size to accomodate the size of crucible I wish to use. There are fused silica that are appropriate in my field of work, and there are the hard graphite. He himself uses the soft 2kg graphite crucibles. I'm not crazy about those, but do like the fused silica and the hard "more metallic feel" graphite crucible, depending upon the task. That's why I needed to know about the ID of the copper coil and if I could "adjust ID diameter of the space which is going to be surrounding my various crucible sizes.

Which is the positive and which is the negative terminal?

The + and - terminals are indentified on this unit. And the water in and water out ports are also identified. I did have to go to eBay and find this identical unit which had several photos embedded in the eBay listings, and then enlarge them enough so I could read them. They are bi-lingual, aka labeled in English as well as in the language of the foreign manufacturer's native tongue.
