Q: Would these binoculars be suitable, tripod-mounted, for use as a spotting scope for rifle shooting at ranges of 50 to 300 yards?

I can tell you that these binoculars are excellent tripod mounted, they will match and in some cases, will out perform a spotting scope with ease, they are extremely comfortable to look throu, easy to handle, and the optics are excellent quality, and offer excellent imaging in day and night time conditions. From what I know, some prefer spotting scopes as it gives the user the same sort of feel and view, that the shooter has down his/her scope. These binoculars will look after you no problem.

Q: Is there a lighter model with similar range . These are around 3lbs in weight and I have severe arthritis. Also would I need to have a tripod.

You must use these with a tripod, because of the high magnification its not possible for anyone to hold these without the target image wobbling

Q: do they work enhanced at night

The binoculars are excellent and work very well at night, however, the tripod bracket as supplied is very (sensitive to vibration/movement). I solved it by filling the sides with hard setting substance (such as No Nails etc) and it is now very stable. Hope this helps, Brian

Q: Are these ok for bird watching in the garden?

Depends how big your garden is...... Great for night sky and looking out to sea. They are quite large and heavy so we have found that they are best mounted on a tripod.
