Can you mount small wheels on the base for portability?

The base is 1” x 1” aluminum square tubing, you could probably drill through it easily and mount a small caster if you wanted to.

Does the rack have a tendency to flex side to side? I've bought 3 similar racks now on Amazon and all of them have had a bad tendency to flex.

I have the 48 slot holder and it does flex considerably with offshore rods. I wanted to add caster wheels to bottom to be more mobile but the flex is too severe.

What components are plastic vs aluminum? Would this be stable enough to be used on a pontoon boat?

I have about 30 big salt water fishing rods stored in my beach home inside. Do not think this is a good choice for storage in a moving boat. Look for something made out of fiberglass or HD wood. There are some on Amazon like that. This rack is designed for storage like in a garage or similar area. It s fine for that purpose but has too much flex for a moving boat. You would be unhappy.
