If you have a deck project, especially a Trex project, there comes a time when you are just focused for about two hours on laying deck boards. It's near the end of the project and you just need a tool to get your fastener in place. This one did the job at a discounted price from the original tool. It was easy to use and fit well in my hand, with or without gloves.

Great tool you need this to install the decking

This tool definitely sped up the process of installing my Trex deck and saved my fingers from getting pinched in the clips. Even my less experienced or handy friends were able to use it to help get as many clips installed as possible. I bought a few of these, and while one did break, they were still a great investment. I’d definitely recommend picking one up if you’re installing grooved deck boards. As it can be done without the it, this tool ensures the boards will slide into the clips without having to tinker with the clips.

I picked this up to build a 425 sq ft trex deck. It is durable and lasted the full deck. I like how it angles the screw so the hideaway is tilted up for the next board. I had someone helping for a few hours and we used a second screw gun. I let my buddy use the screw gun. This is when it became evident how much time it saves placing each screw and fitting the next board.

This does save time, and even with the tabs broken off, it still works ok. If you read the reviews on the Trex ONESTEPTL tool, the tabs break off on that one too. Anyway, it was handy to have. I ordered two and at the end of a deck and a porch (approx 400 sq ft of composite), only one tab remains. Some people say just to cut a piece of piece of scrap and use that, or just hold them by hand, but I would say it did help speed up the time once you get the hang of it.

My husband installed our composite deck and because he was unfamiliar with composite decking and hidden fasteners he decided he might need this tool. Immediately the bit that comes with the product strips and is unusable right away. This is a special size bit and not readily available. He was able to install the decking without the tool very easily. Do not waste your money.
