It is TINY!
I thought I had been sent the wrong part when it arrived as the box was so small. The stand itself is very small and could do with adding an extra inch all round. It is a little unstable, but once docked, the phone stays put most of the time.It definitely does NOT come with a charging cable, the one supplied with the phone needs to be used.I took advice from one of the previous reviewers who said that it works best by the bedside (when I mainly charge my phone overnight).Sony phones are notorious for the charging covers breaking quickly, which would also ruin its waterproof-ness with this phone! So the magnetic charging dock is a godsend to avoid the repetitive opening and closing of the mini USB cover which would eventually destroy the badly designed USB cover. And Sony do NOT want to take responsibility and even send an foc replacement cover. The dock is perfect for watching films or TV, whilst charging at the same time. It also works well with Smart Connect to programme the phone to perform various tasks, like setting the alarm, or generally setting it to nighttime mode.It is too expensive for what it is, a very small piece of plastic with magnetic piece, but it is worth having just to save the USB charging cover.

great charger for a great phone
I had to wait two months for this charger to come into stock, so by then I was used to opening up the charging flap every day.But using this charger makes it easy to drop the phone on for a quick boost during the day on the desk or in the car.1. It holds the phone snugly. I don't think it will fit with a phone with a cover on.2. It holds the phone at a good angle for desktop viewing, much better than the other charger I have, that is too upright3. The charging pins locate firmly onto the phone, unlike the generic holders that switch off and on when going around corners in the car, making the screen flash annoyingly4. I have used blu tak to stick this to my car dashboard. Using Smart connect it will automatically start the Sat Nav and leave the display on. fun5. No dock can offer anything apart from charging as there are only power pins on the side of the phone, not USB connections.6. It doesn't come with a cable, which is a touch annoying but by now I have lots of cables. Although labelled 1800mA, it works with 1000mA 1500mA and 2000mA chargers I have for various other gadgets.7. The styling is minimal but functional. I am happy to look at it with no phone docked. You might feel you are being over charged for £ 1 worth of plastic by Sony but if you can afford the phone, buy the best charger !

Expensive, light and the lead is too short really, but it does do a good job....
Though I think this little beggar is somewhat overpriced for what it is I cannot say that it isn't (a) useful or that (b) it doesn't do exactly what it's supposed to as it does. I have a Sony Xperia Z2 and this is simply the best way to charge it since otherwise you have to keep opening and closing the protective flap over the micro USB charging socket, and I can quickly see that flap either getting damaged or at least loose, so the dock just makes more sense since there is an interface for it on the side of the phone that requires no fiddling about. Apart from the price, which I do think is too much for what it is, this little dock also suffers from two other things that stop me giving it five stars - the first is it's lightness, the second the too short cable. Since the dock is so small and light it refuses to sit securely anywhere unless a phone is docked in it. Also the USB cable between the dock and power adapter is really far too short to be properly useful - ideally it should be at least twice as long as the barely 1m (3ft) that it is. Apart from that it's the usual Sony build quality (fine) and does the job, so if you have an Xperia phone/tablet then annoyingly you also really you need this dock to charge it if you want to retain all the dustproof/waterproof ratings on the protective caps and covers.

Excellent Build with a complimentary style but however a little lacking is mass
As usual it fits the style of the Z2 perfectly.Looks attractive, minimal design, quite small (does not move the eyes away from the phone) and it holds the phone at a well chosen angle. It only has a charging function which is not a problem in my opinion but could be if bought without checking the details if someone expects to have it next to a computer and expect a fully fledged docking station. The only flaw I have really noticed is that you have to hold the phone and stand separately in order to remove the phone from the stand. This is due to the stand being quite light and in order to break the magnetic connector which is quite strong you have to hold them separately as mentioned. The stand could be a little heavier so that you could remove the phone with one hand but you could always add a sticky strip, etc to the bottom to stick it to a surface so that it does not remain attached when picking up the phone.Overall a good accessory and of good quality and definitely a complimentary buy with the Z2.
